We have been seeing an ECI therapist due to my nearly 1 year old's communication delays. After working with him for a few sessions, she thinks Auditory Processing Disorder is a likely issue he may end up having. Does anyone have a LO with APD ? What were they like as a baby/toddler? Is there hope for improvement with therapy as he gets older?

Re: Auditory Processing Disorder in a Toddler
she has improved with therapy but at a much slower pace then her peers. She definitely struggles with receptive language- her expressive language is actually much stronger which is pretty uncommon in speech delayed kids. She communicates needs well whether through speech, sign, or a combo of the two. She is inconsistent with response to her name but its better when its quiet. she has a hard time locating a sound-if i say her name at a playground or doctors office shell look to respond but have a difficult time identifying where i am. She's great at labeling objects on her own terms and likes to look at you, point, say a word and receive praise but if you put her on the spot and ask her she often struggles. She does well with routine directions and things that are highly motivating. She seems to understand language as I can use a first...then scenario to curb tantrums over something she wants to do. Instructions are very difficult for her to follow unless there's something she really wants. If we're cleaning up a puzzle and I ask her to give me the sheep shell likely ignore my instruction and give me a different animal though shell point and say sheep 2,000 times a day on her own terms. If I ask her to go get her favorite book she will happily oblige.
