Babies on the Brain

My poor fur baby

Could use some hugs today. On Tuesday my 6 yo mini Aussie got smacked in the face with a frisbee. Her eye ended up getting really swollen so we tried our best to ice it and just let her rest.

Well yesterday when we got home from work we noticed that the swelling had gone down, but that her eye looked cloudy. Crap.

We rushed her to the vet, and ended up being there till 10, running tests and trying to save her vision. Apparently the frisbee managed to hit her just right and caused pressure to build up in her eye to the point that she got a glaucoma. At this point we don't know for sure if she has any vision left in that eye, or if it will have to be removed. Today I'm taking her to a specialist, but until then all I can do is try to keep her out of pain and hope the pressure doesn't get any worse. This sucks. I hate seeing my little girl like this.

  • Poor puppy!  I'm sorry about your dog, hopefully everything will be ok.  I know how hard it is to see your fur baby in pain.

  • Oh no! Hugs and belly rubs for your baby.
  • Well the jury's in: she's lost all vision in that eye, and will have to have it removed. And today is Pirate Day. Fuck irony and the bitch ship it road in on.
  • Oh no! I am so sorry, @TikiTurtle ! Poor fur baby, I hope she isn't in too much pain throughout this process! My heart hurts for you!
  • I'm so sorry. You'll have the best pirate dog ever. Hugs!

  • Luckily she's on pain meds and glaucoma eye drops to relieve the pressure so she doesn't seem to be in any pain. A little discomfort if she shakes her head around, but for the most part she's acting like herself. I just hate feeling like I failed as a parent to protect her, even though I know there was no way to prevent it.

You are a good mama! You immediately took her to the vet and took her to a specialist to try to save her sight. That is a great pet parent!
  • Poor girl!! I promise, this type of thing is harder on you than it will be on her. Sending prayers for a quick recovery!

FWIW a good friend of mine adopted a cat with one eye and he is the most playful, energetic guy. You really would never know without looking at him. Hopefully your pup will adjust easily, and be just as spunky as before!

    Hugs!

  • Thanks ladies! This has been such a hard thing to go through, but I know that once she's healed she won't miss it and will be back to her old self. It will undoubtedly be harder on us seeing her, constantly reminded of the whole ordeal. I just want to see her happy and pain free.
