Parenting after a Loss

Video monitors recommendations (melly918)

Hi ladies! It's been a while and I have not been an active bumpie since I returned to work a couple weeks ago. My days are filled with Taking DS to school and picking him up after, trying to run a household and getting the kids fed and in bed before I can take care of myself. Day in and out. My nights are filled with DD's major sleep regressions since I went back to work. She wakes between 1 to 4 times a night and I am her sleep crutch. As soon as I nurse her, she goes back to sleep. I am exhausted every day. It does not help having her crib in the same room as ours. She knows we are there when she wakes and if we try to ignore her in hopes she will self soothe and go back to sleep, it is an exercise in futility. Her pedi told me yesterday that we are developing bad habits for her down the road. I don't know what to tank. I'm reading the No Cry Sleep book now but I just don't have a lot of time to focus on it. DS has his own room and STTN consistently since he was like 6 weeks old. To start DD on a path of better sleep habits, we are going to move DD into DS' room which means DS has to move to the downstairs room. It isn't fair to him to share a room with a baby who is going to make noise often. There is just two bedrooms on the 2nd floor and one on the 1st. So now we need to get a new video monitor so we can make sure DS is safe downstairs. We have an older model of Summer Infant...the plastic around the plug is cracked and the monitor even survived a ride in the washing machine! It works but we want a new one that comes with two cameras, pan and zoom mode, multi view on the handheld screen. Can you recommend one? I don't want the iBaby or iMonitor since it doesn't suit our needs. I saw on the Summer Infant website that a new model is coming out in October...but it is $300, Thanks for listening and I will try to be around more often! I can't get on the boards on my work computer like I used to due to some glitch with the web browser so I am using th iPad which is sometimes a pain, so if I have typos, excuse me. :)

  • I have a Motorola video monitor and love it. Obviously I only have one camera right now, but we did hook up a second camera while on vacation because my sisters monitor died one night (she never plugs it in). It worked great! I have the one that is under $200. There are more features on the more expensive ones, but this one was enough for us.

  • We have the Summer Infant Baby Touch® Digital Color Video Monitor and we love it.  We too had an older model and had to add a camera but they not longer made them so we had to upgrade.  I love the newer model more then I did the old.  My youngest is 19 months and we got it before he was born and have had no issues.  It was expensive but worth it.  I called Summer Infant directly and ordered it and because we previously had one, they gave us a discount.  It's worth checking into.

Results back on 3/19 - Normal.  It's a BOY!!!  4/10/14 at 16 weeks, 3 days discovered baby's heart stopped at 15 weeks, 6 days. D&C 4/11/14.  Pathology results were all normal.  New information on 8/11/14 - blood test revealed 1/3 of babys blood was in mine caused, most likely, by a tear in the placenta from extreme coughing.  Doctor believes this to be the cause of death.  Repeat D&C and Hysteroscopy scheduled for 8/19/14.  My Chart

  • Another vote for the Motorola. We have whichever one permits moving the camera remotely to pan and zoom (I don't think all models do this). Have had no issues for 20 months or so of use. The battery life on the monitor is not stellar but it lasts for DS' typical nap length and we plug it in at night. We'll be getting a second camera when DD goes to her own room in a few months.

We have this one too but with 2 cameras. My only issue with it is the battery life when unplugged. But we use it mostly at night so it's not a big problem
I love it. We even got a third camera for their playroom since they love shutting the door.

Thanks! I would have never thought of calling them to see if I can get a discount. I will certainly look into it. I do see that Motorola is popular. I know BRU doesn't permit coupons (like a 25% off discount) for Motorola products though....
