So this post is asking an opinion... I work at a vet clinic and today there was a puppy that came in that I so want!! When trying to talk DH into getting this rescue pup he says no, but I so want him and I think it would be good for DD to grow up with a puppy. It was good for me growing up with a dog and I want her to experience that too. So how should I go about convincing DH that the puppy is a good idea?!?!

Honestly, as a dog owner, I think a puppy is a terrible idea with a 9mo. It's like adding another newborn to the mix. Wait until your LO is older. I'm sure the puppy is adorable, but because of the significant time commitment involved in properly training a puppy, especially with a baby/toddler in the mix, I think both adults have to be 100% on board. Listen to your DH, and wait.

Are you working FT?  Who would be home during the day?  Puppies need to go out constantly, and they chew on everything.  They are a lot of work.  My kids love our dog, I have always had a dog my whole life, so I am totally pro-dog.  But it is a lot of work and I think you need to look at your current life and ask yourself whether now is the right time.

I do work full time and to train him I would take him with me to train him. He is already potty trained and that's the biggest issue for me. But trying to convince DH is challenging and not because he doesn't want a dog, he never had one growing up like I did and he is he biggest germ-a-phobe I know. He's worried about him going outside then coming back in. And I keep saying we have 2 cats that walk in there own filth downstairs. So I don't know. He's so against it when I bring it up he ignores me or changes the subject. Thanks ladies. I know how much works they are really in my line of work I see it daily and tell people how to do it.

If your H is not on board then no. Pets are a big responsibility. Maybe you can foster rescue animals and see how the new dog will operate with your family dynamics. Fostering is rewarding plus it will give your DD exposure like you want and maybe your H will get on board adding a dog to your family permanently.

Also, until the age of two, sometimes later, dogs are often mistreated by LO's. Kids hit, pull tails,etc...

My DH never had pets growing up either and he is also a major germaphobe. I got my dog before we were married and he fell in love with him. The compromise we made when we got married is that the dog lives downstairs. We trained him not to go upstairs since DH wants our bedrooms to stay "clean." We also put in wood floors instead of carpet so it would be easier to clean. Talk with your husband and see if you can make compromises so you can both be comfortable with a dog.

Everyone I know that's gotten a puppy in the last 5 years has taken a week off of work, to spend that week at home with the puppy.  Puppy maternity leave.

Dogs are a LOT of work, they're like toddlers that don't grow up.  Our dog is 7 and she's STILL a lot of work.  Honestly? I think you're out of your gourd.
