Daycare moms- where does LO sleep?

Graham's first day of daycare was today. He did pretty well overall, but when I picked him up they said he didn't nap. He usually naps twice a day for a combined total of 2.5-3 hours. His teacher told me that there is a law that says after they turn one, they must sleep on a cot rather than in a crib. Graham usually walks around in his crib and plays until he goes to sleep. He has to be confined or he won't settle down and sleep. It just seems strange to me. Do your LOs still sleep in a crib at nap time in daycare, or do I just have a SS?

  • Hunter sleeps on a mat too. He will figure it out. The first few days are rough

  • We have cribs until about 17 or 18 months then it's a mat.

  • Cameron sleeps on a cot and usually only naps for 1.5 to 2 hours at school. At home he takes 2 naps and sleeps up to 4 hours although I think he is weaning himself to one 3 hour nap.  It is amazing how quickly they pick up on what they are supposed to do at school. Cameron will usually hang out and play a bit in his crib but goes right out on his cot at school.  Two weeks ago was the "first day" of school for lots of the kids in his class (Cam was there all summer since the school opened). It was pretty cluster-fudgey that week but it is a well oiled machine now.

  • We do an in home daycare. Lola naps in a PNP when she's there. When she can handle it she'll go to a mat/cot. For now she's way too mobile for that and needs the containment to get settled.

  • I think he will get used to it. Cooper sleeps on a mat at daycare which is crazy to me, I don't know how they get her asleep that way

  • At our DC it was an option.  When LO turned 12 months they said she could sleep on a cot.  I was against it for a few weeks and then gave it a try.  For us it has been the best thing ever.  Since she is not confined she relaxes and actually goes to sleep now.  We bought a cot an d now use it at our house for naps. She will get up and wander some but she always comes back to her cot. I don't know if it was there routine/schedule in her new class or the cot but I'll take it!
  • LO is in a dayhome and she naps on the floor.  They have mats, sleeping bags etc for them.  She didn't start daycare until she was one.

  • This is going to shock you all. In Norway kids sleep "outside" in their strollers. Outside being in a "shed" with windows/doors and adult supervision. They are packed up in big, fluffy sleeping bags and blankets.
Haha, really.  Why outside?  Do they just nap "outside" or is it at night time too?

  • I actually didn't know and had to ask today. They have separate cots for all the kids in the room labeled. She sleeps in her crib at home but they said she sleeps great on the cot with her blanket at dc. Your LO will get the hang of it. :)

Even a minor event in the life of a child is an event of that child's world and thus a world event.

  • When he moved to the next room he moved to sleeping on a mat. I had low expectations, but he ended up sleeping better on the mat then he did in his pack n play. There were only 3 kids in his class, though, and when the 4th kid came back the teacher moved them all back into their pack n plays because she couldn't manage to wrangle 4 kids and keep them contained to their mats for them to fall asleep.

I would give him a week or so to adjust.
