First appt. with Home Birth Midwife

So I already had appointments with an OB, a midwife working out of a hospital, and today with the home birth midwife.  I'm about the least crunchy, earth-mother type there is, but I really think I'm going to stick with her.  I feel like they are really focused on the woman as a whole during pregnancy and the facility/office is amazing.  Prenatal yoga, acupuncturist, masseuse, and chiropractor all on sight.  I just feel really excited that I found the care provider I feel best about.  It just made this pregnancy real.

Baby is healthy, measuring right on schedule with a heartbeat of 149.  My early spotting seems to have been nothing to worry about.  Yea for me and hopefully that's a little reassurance for any spotters out there.

  • That practice sounds awesome! Glad you found a good match. Does that mean you'll be having a home birth?
  • @nikkidoll15 I would double check with your insurance if you're interested.  Some of them cover home births, especially because they are usually about 1/2 the cost of hospital births.

@allibob Yup, I was about 80% of the way convinced before I got there today but after my appointment, I feel really confident about it, so barring any complications, home it is!

  • If it weren't for 2 cats and 1 dog, I'd consider a home birth. As long as I stay low risk and healthy I'll be at a birthing center.
Glad to hear you found a person to trust to help you through the birth!

  • That sounds amazing! I'm planning to deliver with a midwife at a hospital, but if we had a birth center with all of those services I'd be there in a heartbeat. Glad you have some peace of mind after your spotting.

  • Kudos to you! Good luck!
  • I have an appointment with a home birth midwifery group on Tuesday. I birthed with midwives from a freestanding birthing center last time but it's about an hour and a half away, so I'd probably just rather stay home!!

I know a bunch of people who have done it and love it. Good for you! I'm glad you found a great provider you click with!!

  • How exciting! We met our homebirth midwife last week and it was such a wonderful experience! Our first prenatal appt isn't until Oct 1, but I'm so excited to receive care from someone I so easily connected with and feel confident in! Very happy you found someone like that as well!
  • I'm glad you found someone you like and are comfortable with. I meet with mine last spring and left feeling so good about the decision to birth at home. I can't wait for my first prenatal appt in a couple weeks.

  • I am so excited for you and cant wait to hear yours and everyones birth stories! I wish I had the guts to try an at home birth but I don't. So I am going with CNM and delivering in a hospital.

  • Some spotting can be normal others a warning however I do not see how your pregnancy can reassurance someone else on there own as each pregnancy is different. If I had issues good or bad with my pregnancy I would take it up with my provider not assume based on your pregnancy. I am glad you are getting care however, you may want to settle on one as you will get better care if they know the whole story... thinking you may stick makes one question if you are willing to pick a provide to care for your unborn who can not get proper care for itself.
