  • I am curious to know this, too.  On my first IVF, my AMH was high, but apparently in the 2 years since I tested my AMH, it is now super low.  I am looking at IVF #2 and have no idea what to expect.

    My TTC Journey:
Dx: Hypothalamic amenorrhea / mild PCOS (Pretty much a hormone/ovulatory disorder)
Progesterone to induce period w/ the goal of Clomid - never got period (September 2011). Referred to RE.
Femera - never responded to the meds (December 2011)
Clomid with TI - BFN (February 2012)
    Injectables (Menopur) - hyperstimulated/canceled (March 2012)
Injectables #2 (Menopur) with TI- BFN (May 2012)
IVF - OHSS (transfer canceled), but 11 frozen! (June 1012)
    FET - 1 transferred on 8/09/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 350.3; Beta#2: 365; Beta#3: 157. Biochemical pregnancy.
    FET # 2 - 1 transferred on 11/01/12. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): 337; Beta#2: 769. BFP!!! 1st ultrasound 11/28/12 showed heartbeat, but measuring 5 days behind. 2nd ultrasound 12/05/12 - miscarriage.
    FET # 3 - 1 transferred on 1/24/13. Beta#1 (11dp5dt): BFN.
    FET # 4 - 2 transferred on 3/21/13.  Bet #1 (11dp5dt): 660; Beta#2: 1,300.  Miscarried at home @ 6 weeks.

    FET # 5 - 2 transferred on 7/12/13.  Beta #1 (10dp6dt): BFN.
Attempted an IUI in late August 2013, but didn't respond well.
IVF #2 with PGS - Stims started 10/28 with retrieval on 11/11.  Of 14 mature eggs, 10 fertilized, 4 made it to Day 5 & 1 made it to Day 6. We did PGS on the Day 5 embryos, and 3 of 4 were normal. Had ET on 11/17. Beta #1 (8dp6dt): 203. Beta #2 (10dp6dt): 618. We since had two ultrasounds & on 12/19, our RE released us to the OB.  On 1/02/14, we had our first ultrasound with the OB where we heard the heartbeat.  We are so thankful for the blessing & crossing every finger & toe for a healthy & successful pregnancy.

  • I have a low AMH (i think it was around .9 at one point and .7 at another), but I got 22 retrieved, 18 fertilized, 6 survived, and after genetic testing, there were 3 that were good to go!  Go 2 in me right now and the third is frozen.  Wish we had more to freeze, but the testing definitely weeds out any bad eggs.  For me they said it was the quality of the eggs, not necessarily the amount.  Probably different from us all, but they say it works all the time with people with low AMH, so it is not an improbability!

My AMH is 0.66 and my AFC was 10. Ten eggs were retrieved, 8M and 7F with ICSI. There were none to freeze. 2 embryos made it to day 5 and both were transferred. Good luck!

  • Siggy/ticker warning:

My AMH was .21 last November. In July, I had 7 AFC, 7 retrieved, 7 mature, 6 F, 4 made it to blast. We transferred 2 and have 2 frosties.

Good luck! I know how a low AMH feels like a black cloud over your head! Hopefully you still get a lot of eggs but if not, it's quality over quantity!

  • Sig Warning

As above pp's have said - There are so many factors that go into this.  It depends on your response to meds, your AFC, your protocol...during a visit with my most recent RE in July, I asked him a very similar question because I was concerned about not having any or only 1 or 2 for retrieval since my AFC was so low (about 4 at the time). He told me there were about 8 different variables that are considered predictive.  He also told me that even if you have an ultra low AFC (like I do), that sometimes you can get more than your baseline AFC.  Generally speaking, though, it seems like of the ladies I have seen on this forum and others that usually they do not get anymore than their AFC.  And then you have to consider that there are some that will be retrieved, but may not fertilize. There are others that may fertilize, but may arrest, etc.  Overall, though, when I was looking at doing IVF, my most recent RE was positive...but yet I saw a different RE in Feb who told me that I wasn't even a candidate for IVF because of undetectable AMH and very low AFC.  I will tell you, though, that I am now a firm believer in supplements.

If you are thinking about doing IVF, I would start on some supplements for egg quality. I took CoQ10 (my RE had me on 100 mgs, 2 times a day), Vitamin D (I was on 2000 iu per day) and 1 Baby Aspirin (in some studies it shows to increase blood flow to the ovaries).  I would not take DHEA, though, unless you have your levels monitored.

There is also a great forum called network 54 high fsh forum where there are a bunch of very knowledgeable ladies on the topic of DOR/Low AMH/High FSH.

IF DX: DOR & Fragile X pre-mutation carrier
    2011: FSH 13.3 & E 99; AMH 0.54 2nd FSH 6.2 E 40's AFC: 8
BFP from Clomid/IUI ~ Pre-e and IUGR during pregnancy ~ DS born 9/4/12
    Feb./March 2013: AMH less than 0.16 (undectable) and AFC = 4;
BFP from supps ~ DS#2 due May 2014

  • *siggy warning * I agree with PP about a number of factors being involved. My AMH was 0.3 at first and later retested at 0.6 and as you can see in my siggy I had two IVF attempts converted to IUIs due to poor response and then found the right combo of meds (and perhaps supplements and acupuncture) and had 11 fertilized. I would ask your RE what he expects for ER based on your test results (FSH, AMH, response to meds). Good luck!
