Re: A two week cold - WWYD? (Gknauff79)

  • Pretty much anytime DS gets a cold, within 3-4 days of symptoms I take him to the doctor to make sure it's nothing that requires antibiotics or nebulizers (I have an anxiety disorder so of course I never think it's just a cold).  We always bring him in and then they ALWAYS say that if he doesn't improve in a week, to bring him back in.  That's even when it's "just a cold" or something viral--they always tell me to take him back in a week.  You've passed that point so I would 100% call and make an appointment if it were me.

  • I always listen to my mom instincts.  Who cares what the Dr's office thinks?  Better safe than sorry.

For colds though I usually didn't take her in to the pedi unless she had a fever or another worrying symptom.  Something like great gobs of green goop or a chest rattle.  There isn't much they can do for them at that age and a lot of times it was just a waste of a morning esp once I went back to work.  Hope she gets better soon.

  • I would call the Dr and ask to see them if your mommy instincts say so. Jackson has had a runny nose and I have him sleeping with the humidifier every night. It's getting better and I'm guessing 3 new teeth are about to pop through which runny nose is a sign... But either way humidifier is helping. Congestion is cause for concern. You don't want it to get worse. Dr's get paid for seeing patients so they should take you if your requesting! Hope DD feels better.

  • If you feel like she needs to be seen, then go ahead and make an appointment. The person on the other end of the phone doesn't know her as well as you do. Colds can and often do relapse, so it's very possible that's what happened. I hope she feels better soon!

  • I would go with your gut and make the appointment.  You can't be brushed off if you're actually in office.  Besides when it comes to coughs, I want them to listen to her chest to make sure it's nothing serious.
