Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Not sleeping

My baby will be 5 months on the 27th. She has not slept for more than an hour and a half in a row for over a month now. I EBF. We put her to sleep in her crib. Then in our room to feed, then I bring her back to her crib. This cycle continues until about 3am. I then get fed up and keep her in our bed. We have a fan going in our room because I need constant noise to sleep.

I am so tired! I think that her wakefulness could be a few things! She's teething. She needs heavier food before bed. Or she needs constant noise when she sleeps. Have any of you fed your babies oatmeal cereal before bed? Does it work? How can I keep her asleep?

Re: Not sleeping

  • My dd does not sleep well unless she has white noise. I use my iPad with the app "sleep baby sleep". It has a blow dryer, fan, vacuum, running water etc. recordings that will play continuous all night. I turn it up pretty loud. Sometimes I forget to turn it on when I put her down for a nap and she will toss and turn until I realize it and as soon as I turn it on she's out like a light!

I know people say its a myth about cereal before bed but my sister gives her dd cereal and she sleeps so much better since starting, not through the night yet, but goes longer stretches.

  • My babe is 6 months and 4 days and has a very similar pattern. He wakes every 2-4 hrs to nurse and I'm getting no sleep. My SO wants to help but I will just have to get up and pump anyways if he gives him a bottle. So here is what my pediatrician suggested last well visit. She said that what my baby wants is probably just ME. She suggested that dad takes over at night and that if we give him something that isn't worth waking up for (like a small amount of formula) he would eventually stop waking so often. So we are on night number two and we have already seen an improvement. Last night he slept in his crib the whole night only waking three times!!! I'llust keep my pump ready bedside from now on. The plus is you can finally get a tad bit more sleep.
