3 under 2 or 3 under 3?

We are beginning our next round of fertility treatments, and wondering about peoples experience with 3u2 or 3u3. If you had a singleton in your first pregnancy then had twins with your second pregnancy, you opinion is:

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

Wow! Wish we had waited for our little one to be older before having another!

  • Although i technically wouldn't want to change anything now, I do wish my son was at least 3 before we had the twins, but all things being equal, it's not like I planned on twins either.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • I guess I'm confused by the response options, are you trying for twins? Or are you trying to see how difficult it is with that many kids to decide how many to transfer? I didn't mind having the kids close together in age, it was that there were three of them. I didn't plan on having twins and they were spontaneous so I guess my opinion would be my son at 2 years, 4 months was a great age to have another baby, but one, not two. Obviously now I wouldn't change a thing, but 3U3 with the youngest being twins is not easy.
  • We are talking about how many to transfer, my RE recommends 2 for us based on my medical history, but he said there is always a small chance that we could have twins. Now the chance of us having twins is the sam a us NOT getting pregnant if we only do one... So I was wondering, from real experience, what people thought? When we would give birth my son will be 23 months, so we will only be 3u2 for a month then 3u3. And we are really leaning towards 2 embys as we WANT to get pregnant, so I guess I am just looking at this from all angles...
I am a SAHM, but hubby is military and gone, a LOT!!!
    Thank you for responding!

  • My oldest was 3y3mo when the twins were born. I did not want them any closer than that and even w the 3+ yr age gap, twins w an older IS difficult. Doable, sure. But this is hard.

Our oldest goes to FT daycare since we both work so I don't have to deal w all 3 of them on my own often. He's a very active kid and there's no way I could give him the exercise and stimulation he needs on a daily basis w newborn twins. Many people do it, though. You just adapt.

  • Three local MoMs have twins and then a baby at 16m (both unplanned the second pregnancy) and while one just has a newborn, the other has 3/4yos now and she said the first year was totally nuts, but she loved that they are the best of friends. And the other has 6/7yos and said they all PTd together :) Any split has pros and cons, it'll just be different. We are hoping for another little one, which would be 2 years and a couple months from the twins, but that is more due to my age than anything else.

  • It's hard, and while I'm obviously not going to change it for anything I have already decided if I were to have another baby I'm going to wait until my youngest is well over the age of 2 at least, maybe even closer to 3. That is just my personal opinion, and while I love having my 3 close together in age it has been difficult having essentially 3 babies to take care of instead of having older children to be more self sufficient in a few areas. I love that they are the best of friends, and I was still able to enjoy my singleton as much as I could, and it will be really great when we can all do activities together, but it comes with its own set of struggles!

Every family is different, and each situation is going to have its demands and struggles (3 year olds are also no joke just in general!) so go for it!! It's obviously not impossible to do :)

  • I have a 10 yr old and 23 month old twins and I'm 17w pregnant with twins again. Life with twins is tough but so amazing and worth it. I didn't expect to have twins the 2nd time but I wouldn't change a thing.
  • DS was 22 months when the twins were born. We had planned our kids 2 yrs apart. What we didn't plan on was having twins! We will wait until the twins are 2 before trying again. This way they'd be closer to 3, just incase we have twins again.

  • My twins were born when DD was just 19m. It has been really hard. There are so many things we can't do and places we can't go. If she was older before twins came it would still be hard...because twins are hard, but we would be able to do more. If we knew we were gonna have twins I probably would have waited till she was 3 or 4!!!

She is 3.5 now and twins almost 2. So I am starting to see things becoming easier. But this is definitely the hardest thing I will ever do!
