Night time PT advice...

DD has been day trained for awhile. We put off night time training because we we're traveling and moving. So DD wears pull-ups to bed. For awhile she would wake up dry or sometimes just a little wet. Well recently her pull-up is FULL every morning and this morning she leaked through and her nightgown and sheets were wet.

I know the first thing we need to do is limit liquids before bed, but we don't usually have dinner until 6:30-7pm. Do we just not offer her anything to drink at dinner? She also always ask for some water at bedtime.

Any advice to work on getting rid of the pull-ups at nightime? I know she is a deep sleeper so I'm afraid she also wont get up in the middle of the night to go either.

Re: Night time PT advice...

  • Your daughter is still young, I've heard that with night training it's more of when you are physically ready.  Maybe she's not there yet?

We eat dinner late too around 7:30 and DD gets water.  We don't limit what she drinks when it comes to water.  But we don't do juice and she gets a cup or two of milk in the morning and then again after nap.
  • Can you take her to the bathroom before you go to bed at night?  That might help.  And perhaps get her used to responding to that sensation in the middle of the night instead of relying on the comfort of the diaper.  Clearly she is physically ready since she used to wake up dry or mostly dry.  She has the ability.

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

  • Night time is really just waiting for their body to be physically ready. DD1 started waking up dry (or waking up to go) at 6, and we never limited liquids.
