Pregnant after 35

I just can't leave well enough alone

I posted this post a few weeks ago:
https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12063560/mat21-results-vs-quad-screening-results#latest

I just can't shake the need for an amnio... I know my Mat21 results came back negative, the MFM Dr. performing the Level II U/S said everything looked perfect but I feel like I can't enjoy this pregnancy because I'm worried sick that my Mat21 results were wrong.

Am I the only nut? I just feel like I have to have 100% confirmation. I had an Amnio with my 1st DD because of the same Quad screening results (DD will be 5 in Dec, so Mat21 wasn't available back then) I'm scared to have it done this go-round out of fear of miscarriage.

Ugh, I'm just rambling.

Re: I just can't leave well enough alone

  • Im not sure I can help you, just letting you know your fear of the unknown is not unusual.  I wouldn't choose an amnio no matter what my results are (test next week), the risk of the procedure is greater than your risk so I am not sure how that would alleviate your fears. Have you asked your dr for a genetics counselor recomendation or someone that can go over your numbers again.  Perhaps educating yourself a little more will help.  Hope you find peace of mind in whatever you choose.

  • Sorry you're struggling with this. We can't tell you what you should do but you already know that...what we can tell you is that just like pp stated, it's normal to worry. I would never risk the amnio in your situation but it's a very personal decision. I understand the doubts. However, for the sake of your sanity and stress level I hope you can find a way to trust in your results and relax so that you can enjoy your pregnancy and get excited about the little miracle you've created! Hugs!
