Shut- but we have a video monitor. When he sleeps for naptime at my mom's with just the sound monitor, she keeps the door cracked so she can peek in without making noise. He is 2.5 and still in a crib.
DS's bedroom door has always been shut since he started in his own room. When he's sick I will turn the monitor on so I can hear if he's up in the night in case he needs help.
For my 3.5 year old (in a bed), we usually shut the door when she falls asleep. But, before we go to bed, we open the door in case she gets up in the middle night. We do have a monitor in her room.
I guess I'm in the minority. Our almost 3 year old sleeps in a bed with the door open and has since he was about 2.5. He became very upset about having the door closed so we started leaving it open, but put a baby gate at the door so he still couldn't roam the house. We just removed the baby gate a couple weeks ago, and he actually stays in his room even with the door wide open.
Ours both sleep when them shut. We were really careful about it when they were infants because we have a very cuddly cat that wanted nothing more than to just sleep with them. Now they're 4 and 2 and both in double beds, but still sleep with the door closed. I don't have to worry about waking them up walking around at night, or vacuuming once they're asleep. When they were small we had monitors in their rooms, but I'm a really light sleep and hear as soon as they call. DS will just let himself out of his room and come to ours, but I still have the child lock on in DD's room because I don't trust her yet to be safe around the stairs when she's tired.
We'll do the same with the next baby, especially seeing as in a moment of weakness DH promised each of the kids a kitten when we get back from Florida in a month. Stupid DH, lol
I keep DS bedroom door closed at night when he is sleeping. He is still in a crib. We have a cat so I don't want her in there waking him up. I have a sound monitor that I keep on to hear him.
DS is 2.

Both of them sleep with their doors shut, but we leave our door open. DD1 will be 4 in November. If she wakes during the night, she can open her door and come into our room. DD2 is 21 months and still in a crib. We don't use monitors at night. I've always heard them when they cry.
Door shut, and we still use a monitor. The girls are 3.5 and 2, both in beds and share a room.
We've always slept with doors shut, including the nursery as soon as they moved in there at 6 months. We won't stop using the monitor for a while because I prefer the doors shut.

Almost 2.5, in a crib. Door was shut until a couple months ago when he developed an issue with the dark. So now it's open until we find an adequate night light. And thus risk waking him up when we're getting ready in the morning.
We didn't need a monitor when it was shut; our room is down a very short hall and we're both light sleepers.
Sleeps in toddler bed and door is shut because her room is right next to ours and it's close to the kitchen and bathroom. If the door was open, she'd be constantly woken up!
DD is 3.5 and has been in a bed since 18 months. She likes her door shut for naps and open at night. She's going through a scared of the dark phase, so maybe that's why. We have a monitor, too. Her room is pretty far from ours - down a hallway and laundry room in between.
We have cats, so the door is always closed when they are sleeping. We have a video monitor so I can see them if needed without opening the door. I can usually open the door without disturbing my girls, but the 2.5 yo, he always woke the second I cracked the door. He sleeps in a toddler bed right now.

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
DD is 2. I keep her door cracked until she falls asleep, then shut it for naptime. Overnight it's open.... She doesn't roam, and the thought of her being unable to get out if something (?) were to happen overnight really freaks me out.

We keep it cracked open a little, otherwise it gets kind of hot in her room. We do use a monitor still, even though our apartment is small. I don't always wake up when she starts to make noises in her crib. Reading about the open door being a fire hazard has made me think twice though. I had no idea
2 yrs & 2 months. Sleeps in a bed. Door closed. We have an IP camera in her room, so we can see her. And our bedrooms share a wall that has a vent in it, so when we're asleep we can still hear her pretty well.

DD is in a toddler bed with the door shut. We had the door open with a baby gate across the door, but she would always run to the gate after being put in bed and scream at the gate. We figured it might be because she could see the light from the living room, so we closed the door to try it out. This works much better for us; DD doesn't scream any more after being put to bed. For us it was a matter of testing the options out and seeing what worked best for DD.
I leave it open a crack when I put her to bed. Mostly so it doesn't make a big noise when I open it for air circulation when I go to bed. When DH gets up in the morning he closes it again (open a crack) to keep from waking her up.

Re: Door open or shut for sleeping
When they were under a year, we'd leave the door cracked and use a monitor.
