High-Risk Pregnancy

GD & glyburide

My fasting numbers were always too high and I tried different types of bedtime snacks, my Dr put me on glyburide to control my numbers. It worked! I just feel extra tired since going on the meds. I'm on 2.5mg and 34 weeks. Is anyone else feeling this way or is it bc I'm 34 weeks? I have an appointment on Thursday so I'll ask my Dr then, I'm just curious about your experience! Thanks in advance! :)

Re: GD & glyburide

  • I hope it works for me. I just got mine tonight , it's 1.25 and I take it at my last snack.

  • I hope it does too!
  • I'm on 2.5 mg and am early in my pregnancy but my fasting numbers with out it were around 95. It worked well but I have to stay on a pretty regimented meal/exercise plan or it can get too low. I accidentally didn't eat enough carbs with dinner and was walking around the fair for about 4 miles. That night my blood sugar dropped into the 50's and I was disoriented and shaky.

Not to scare you, I have only had it happen a couple times! So don't forget to eat all of your carbs and if you exercise late at night ask your doctor if you should have extra carbs.

All in all, totally worth it!

I had this happen too. Make sure you talk to your dr about it. I started my medicine over the weekend and had it happen Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday I called the dr on call and she told me to skip my dinner pill that night. I had a dr appt on Monday and she told me that any time I have a low number, I should call because they really don't want it getting too low. There's some adjustment involved and they will tinker with the dosage until they get it right, but it seems to be working. Maybe just a little too well. :)

ETA: To answer OP's question, I don't feel any more tired than normal and I'm 29 weeks. I would definitely mention it to your doctor, but it could just be that you are at 34 weeks.

  • Thank you, ladies! I'll talk to my dr about if for sure. I think I just need a lower dose. Luckily, I haven't been shaky or disoriented, just extra tired.
  • i was on 1.25 mg from about 24 weeks to full term. I did not notice it making me more tired than I was.

  • They prescribed me 2.5 sugar was dropping to 50's and 60's so they suggested I break it in half... Which worked... When taking at night, but then day levels were too high so Now I take the 2.5 after breakfast so my levels stay low thru out the day and fastings are in the 70's and 80's. So you basically just have to try taking it at different times and see what works best... Dr told me it's an experiment.
  • I felt off when i started it also. Doc said it would get better as i adjusted to my sugars being lower
