C-sections

Csection infection?

So my incision was healing beautifully then all of a sudden BAM 4 weeks later a portion of it is infected. Boo, anyone else dealing with this? Did it drain on its own or did the dr do it for you?

Re: Csection infection?

  • Mine drained on its own after it opened, but it took like 10 weeks to do it. Mine had massive issues though. I'm almost 13 weeks PP and still waiting for it to completely close.

Never dealt with it but any sign of infection you should see your doctor.

I've already seen the Dr. He couldn't get it to drain in the office and put me on antibiotic. I was just seeing if anyone else had been through it so I could mentally prepare myself for the drainage. Not excited at all.

@jennOK. GL with your healing, was yours an emergency C section? I was told that's when you are more likely to get an infection because if the urgency if it.
  • Mine was partially reopened (in my obs office) for infection just over a week pp, with the remaindered reopened 2 days after that (in l&d bc it was a weekend). I didn't see what came out, but there was a LOT of blood (I also had hematomas in addition to the infection).

I was on abx for 10 days (and just finished another round for mastitis that I started the day after I finished). I'm almost 5 weeks pp, and it's still not closed. It's also still extremely painful.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. It sucks. :(

  • Mine abscessed out 10 days post op.  I wasn't on antibiotics at the time (the Dr. didn't really listen to me and felt it wasn't infected a few days prior) and it became progressively more red, painful, then ruptured open one night as I sat on the couch.  :P

Anyway, as you are on antibiotics it may or may not open up.  Warm packing can help with comfort and helping the body move the bad stuff out.

Infections suck and are super painful!  Hope yours heals rapidly.

  • Mine got infected. I caught it very early so my dr just peeled off the glue cleaned it up and then gave me bacitracin to put on it.

  • My incision became infected about 4 weeks PP.  I went to the doctor and saw the nurse practitioner who told me it wasn't infected - it was bright red, warm, draining pus - but according to her it was fine.  Two weeks later at my 6 week PP appointment, my doctor told me she couldn't believe the NP didn't give me antibiotics and put me on a hardcore antibiotic to get rid of the infection.
  • Mine got infected 3 weeks after surgery. They gave me antibiotics and it took care if itself. I had to clean it with a warm wash cloth 4 times a day and use a hair dryer to make sure it was really dry. Then I put gauze on it so it would collect the sweat. Good luck!
  • Exactly one week it was awful went to ER had to spend night and then a nurse had to come to house and pack infection for weeks... Good luck

Yes, mine was an emergency csection. I also had some post op bleeding in the skin/fat layer that compounded the problem. At a couple of my many doctors appointments before I started getting better they actually pushed on my stomach to break apart the clots sitting in there and then pushed them out the open holes in my incision. Sorry if tmi, but it was horrific.

I hope it got better for you. Mine took a loooong time, but it's finally almost closed up.
  • Get seen by a doctor. It can get bad FAST.Oh man..my infection was terrible. I was 6 days pp and ended up in the ER with a massive infection. I was having tremors that would make me pass out and my fever spiked within minutes. Dr only had to press my incision and it burst open. It smelled like death. Such a morbid scent..& the pain. Oh god the pain! The lidocaine I was given didn't take effect and I felt her pop out every single staple from inside me. Every poke of her finger popping open pustules of puss and when she would stick her hand, yes her hand, in and scoop out nasty gunk. I've never screamed and cried so much in my life. She tried to clean me out as best she could and stuffed me with wet to dry gauze. I had necrosis 7 inches down. Rotting meat, that's why it smelled so horrible.I went into surgery the next day to get a wound vac in place and just came off it about 2 1/2-3 weeks ago. Worst experience of my life. And I'm still having problems with a little corner that doesn't want to seal properly.
