I know that the Le-a story is made up but after working in a high school that is very diverse I can tell you 1st hand that there are SO MANY made up names that it would make this board cry. I do a face to plam move on a daily basis. They are seriously horrible #-o
Well according to a co-worker (who is notorious for her outrageous, exaggerated stories), she actually had THE La-a in class when she was student teaching. Can you believe it!? I had a hard time keeping my mouth shut.
Personally, parents these days will name their kid anything (Hello, Hashtag), so I find nothing outside of the realm of possibility that somewhere, someone heard a story about a name and thought, "Wow! That's awesome, I'm going to give my child that name." People will do anything for attention.

This. I'm sure that about 99% of the times I've heard about L-a or Orangello and Lemonjello, they're fakey fake fake, BUT as a former teacher, I know that anything is possible.

I'm a lurker but I can tell you that I have personally actually seen the La-a first hand. I used to work at my local clerk's office and the name came through on some paperwork for someone who was arrested.
While I'm sure someone somewhere along the way has heard the La-a story and decided that it was indeed the most awesome name they could give their daughter, my friend actually had the original article that Snopes refers to in her FB feed. So it was not a real person she was referring to.
