Updated Update A Little Worried

My title says it all, I'm a little worried about C. I think he and his brother are on the mend because they are not as raspy and rattly as they were and no more fevers thank goodness. The medicine is nearly impossible to get into them because the pharmacy first gave me a spoon to give them the medicine in and I had no syringes at home and then one of my best friends brought me all of the syringes she had from when her girls were infants and today I got a pacifier dispenser and all of it has not gone well. (I made sure the syringe was pointed towards their cheek and put it half way back in their mouth and given it slowly.) The steroid is making them both have the poops and it is burning their little butts, thank goodness for A&D cream. And C has gone from little eating to almost not eating. They both eat 25 ounces a day and C is down to about 10 ounces a day. I have tried to give him pedialite with doctor's approval and he won't take that either. I've tried unflavored and flavored, it's no go. I am keeping an eye on his pee diapers, but I am worried of him becoming dehydrated. I don't know what else to do that I am not doing already. Ugh! I'm assuming their 4 month vaccinations might have to wait if they are both not fully recovered on Thursday. Does anyone if that would be the case?
I forgot D choked/gagged on the medicine and scared himself as well as me. :(
***Update***We are headed to the ER to be checked for dehydration. I called the doctor and spoke with the nurse after C threw up everything he ate this morning and they both have really bad diarrhea. And they have not had a wet diaper since I changed them this morning at 630. I will keep you updated.

~**Update**~We are home and the boys are both sleeping. It looks like they have a stomach virus that the steroid for the croup was making worse because it was weakening their immune system. With that said we are stopping the Prednisone and we were given a prescription for Zofran, however, if we have to give more than 3 doses a day we need to head back to ER. The pediatric ER doctor wanted to start small and work our way up if needed, so she gave them each a dose of Zofran and then pedialite and they ate it like champs. Thankfully, that is all they needed and as soon as we got home the diarrhea started again, but hopefully it will end soon. She has us slowly incorporating formula back into their diet so right now it is 2 ounces of formula mixed with 2 ounces of pedialite. She wrote me a note taking me out of work for the next three days, but DH is off tomorrow and I will take off Wednesday if needed. Thank you ladies for the thoughts, prayers, hugs, and all of the support the past few days. I am praying and keeping my fingers crossed that this will pass quickly.
Oh and what I was concerned about with weight C was 12 pounds 4 ounces on Friday and today he was 11 pounds 8 ounces with clothes on. D was 11 pounds 11 ounces a week ago and today he was 11 pounds 8 ounces with clothes on.

Re: Updated Update A Little Worried

  • I'm sorry. About a month ago H was sick and didn't eat much for two days. I was ready to take him to the hospital but he finally started eating again. When I say not much, he may not have gotten 10oz a day. He wouldn't take anything either that time.

Hope they start feeling better and C starts eating more.

  • Poor little guys! I agree with PPs and would call the pedi just in case. I think they would probably want to relax the vax since the boys are sick. Hopefully it's on the downswing now and they are feeling better really soon.
