Foonf Install

I recently asked for some car seat advice on this board and got some help from some very knowledgeable posters, so i'm back.  Rear facing was extremely important to me (my son has had neurosurgery) so i decided to get a clek foonf.  It arrived and now I have install questions.  I am installing the seat rear facing for my 32 lb 3yr old in a 2011 Honda Odyssey.

1) I have read there are weight limits for using the latch method of install.  Given how heavy the seat is does this mean it needs to be installed with a seat belt, not the latch?

2)  Do these limits apply forward facing rendering the rigid latch useless once I do turn him?

(If anyone reading know who to tag that has foonf knowledge would you mind going ahead and doing that for me?)

I so so so appreciate the help.

Re: Foonf Install

  • Thank you.  I'm so sorry but I have additional questions now.  I have no idea why I am having trouble finding the answers to my questions.  I have read that though the Odyssey has no limit stated in the manual engineers recommend a 40lb limit.  So I am assuming that means the child and seat combined.  I have read on car seat.org that you can use the latch and the seat belt for installing forward facing as it is a rigid latch system  However does this apply to rear facing as well?  I am so sorry i'm starting to feel like I need a degree in car seat installation!  If you are able to answer this i can't tell you how appreciated it is!

I decided it might be best to tag you.  I think the answer to my previous question is that rear facing i should using just the seat belt and the top tether?
Again I so appreciate your answers!
  • Thank you again,  I think I finally got it!  I'm sorry if i seem crazy.
