O2 at night

Hi ladies, we had our weekly room air pulse ox check on Friday and Griffin satted in the low to mid 90's after being at room air for over 45 minutes! So proud of our little guy!

Our pedi wants us to keep him on O2 at night for a little while longer just to be on the safe side (we live at about 8,000 feet). For those of you that had to do this, did you just keep the tender grips on your LO's face so that the cannula stayed in place at night or do you have any other suggestions? Thanks!
Hoping this one stays put a little longer

Re: O2 at night

  • Yup, we used the tender grips -- DD2 was on o2 24hrs/day for about 6 weeks after coming home -- although, we more than once found she had pulled the cannula out of her nose in the middle of the night, unbeknownst to us, and never satted low enough to ring the pulse-ox monitor. :) But, the tendergrips did the trick for us.

If you can get extras of the tendergrips before discharge, do it -- that way you're not trying to stretch whatever your insurance decides is the "right" amount to give you. We were only given one foot sticky for the pulse-ox per week -- that was tough to stretch! But, you probably won't be able to get those from the NICU (and they may not be compatible with the equipment you get -- ours weren't). But, doesn't hurt to ask! :)
