Coughing and spotting

I am 21 weeks and have been dealing with sinus trouble since Monday. It is now in my lungs and when this happens I always get a deep cough. I have been persistently coughing for days and it occasionally causes me to leak. This morning I was lying in bed and coughed and leaked but when I went to the bathroom there was a spot of blood in my underwear. It was reddish brown but I haven't spotted at all during my pregnancy. I called the doc and he told me to take robitussun dm and if any other bleeding occurred or cramping started to come in but I haven't seen blood since. Has anyone experienced this?

  • I had this a few times so far during my PG, but the spotting wasn't correlated with coughing. I had a SCH which was causing me to spot, and it finally worked it's way out. There have been a few ladies on the board that have had unexplained spotting though, with the baby perfectly fine. Hopefully that is your case! FX that you have no more spotting!

Honey, first of all I hope you feel better, and I hope that the spotting is nothing...but I will tell you (not to scare you), that my doc said if I notice any reddish/bronish spottting at this point, that I would need to be seen immediately. From my understanding, 18-22 (or is it 24?)-ish weeks are when you are most at risk for an incompetent cervix.

(I am considered a little higher risk for this since I have had a D&E due to missed-miscarriage, and also a LEEP due to an abnormal pap. My doc has me coming in every 2 weeks since 18 weeks to have a quick ultrasound of my cervix to make sure it is nice and long and closed).

It's probably nothing, but I'd insist on going in for a quick check of your cervix just to be safe. Its the only way to know (with still having time to fix it) if your cervix is incompetent.

I can't make a signature with a picture and/or a ticker for the life of me...

    I'm having a baby, due 1/20/14.

    The end.
  • Thanks all...everything is fine. It's from placental previa. I'm currently on pelvic rest...
  • Glad everything is fine! Get some rest!
  • If that cough persists you may want to get checked for pneumonia. I have had it twice this pregnancy and thought it was just allergies and/or asthma.
