What are your thoughts on Galen? Love it? Hate it?

Do you think that having 'gay' in the name would leave a boy open for getting picked on?

ETA: Also do you think people would butcher the pronunciation the first time around and pronounce it almost like gallon or talon?

I worked with a Galen and always thought it was a cool name.  He said he was teased when he was younger though, but likes his name now that he is an adult.  He was a very successful director where I worked, so it obviously did not hold him back :-)

I have no strong feelings about it one way or another. It's a totally legit name. My first thought is famous photog Galen Rowel, which would be an honor to be named for.

I automatically wanted to pronounce it gallon. I've never heard the name before. I don't think it's really my style.

I have never heard the name and when I first saw it I thought it was a girls name. I pronounced it "Gail-in" when I initially saw it which I think is why I thought girl. This name is too much of a burden for a little boy. Go with something more know like Gavin.

I went to school with one, and he said his childhood was pretty rough with all the gay comments... I think the name is nice, but I would avoid it.

It was one of my neighbors names growing up. He was teased constantly about his name and always said he hated it.

Yeah, this. Sexuality is a really touchy and personal thing to everybody. Giving a child a name that constantly brings that up just doesn't seem very nice.

I pronounced it gallon and if I had to choose I think gallon sounds much better than gay-Lin.

Thanks for the input ladies. I had a patient with this name the other day and it just really started to grow on me the more I heard it but I was afraid of a future little boy getting made fun of because of it. You guys pretty much reinforced my fears.

Growing up, my dentist was named Galen. I also knew one kid in school with the name. I kind of like it, but wouldn't use it.
