DD still drinks out of a bottle and I'm wondering when we should start to wean her off them. I'm still BFing and she gets BM from the bottle at daycare and sometimes at home.
We cut them cold turkey this week when she was almost 15m. She was only getting them after meals. I still BF. She is doing okay. I know she would prefer the bottle but that's not an option anymore.
We got rid of daytime bottles shortly after 12 months and got rid of his before bedtime bottle just after he turned 15 months. Is your LO already drinking water out of a sippy? If so, I would just try substituting the milk bottle for a sippy. She may resist at first but if you keep trying with each serving, she'll accept it probably more quickly than you think. Have daycare start doing it too. I think that definitely helped us because DS would see other kids getting their milk out of cups too.
we stopped a week before DD turned one- handed her a sippy instead of a bottle and she was fine! she mastered the straw at 8 months, and loved to drink out of my water cup with a straw so when I got her a straw sippy she was head over heels!
She weaned herself down at 10 and a half months. She was getting formula in a straw cup four times a day. She was getting one bottle at bed time. At eleven months, she started taking her bedtime feed by cup. She will continue to get formula until 18 months, or so.
My daughter is 15 months and we just switched from bottles to sippy cups today. Cold turkey.
It's not going well. She's been asking for a baba all day, and throwing the cups of milk (breast milk and formula - she can't have any dairy or dairy substitutes). She'll drink water out of a sippy or straw cup, but every cup we've tried with milk has gotten thrown.
So far we've gotten 2 ounces into her today. TWO. She normally drinks 30 oz in a day (too much I know, that's why the pediatrician is having us quit bottles)
On the plus side, she's already eaten 3x the amount of food she normally eats.
At 12 mos I introduced whole milk in his sippy cups. He wasn't fond of it but took a few sips. We were down to 3 bottles being morning, afternoon and nighttime. After a couple weeks we switched the morning and afternoon with milk in sippy cups. He still has his nighttime bottle, but going to stop that in a few weeks. He is 14 months.

She was about 10 or 11 months old when she pretty much weaned herself. We had been giving her a sippy cup with water to practice. She started to prefer that so we just switched over completely. She never once asked for her bottles back.
After 2 years of TTC, our daughter was born on Oct 31, 2011! 7lbs 13oz 20 inches long
13 mos we went to sippys. We like the munchkin mighty grip sippys for milk. We didn't have much luck with other ones. I've recommended these to friends who were struggling and their kids also liked these.
We cut him off bottles a couple weeks after his first birthday. We did the "cold turkey" approach and it actually went much better than expected. He does really well with sippy cups and straw cups so we haven't had too many issues.
He started drinking water from a straw sippy cup around 6-7 months. At 11 months, we started sending his BM into daycare in one of the same straw cups. It took about 3 days until he started drinking exclusively from the straw cups.
Daughter is 18 months and will get 1-2 bottles (6-7 oz) of whole milk a day. She was EBF and will drink completely fine out of a sippy or a straw cup at meal time or snacks, she just will take all day to finish one cup. She sips. Ped said it was fine to give her a bottle or two since she isn't going to bed with one and isn't relying on one to fall asleep or anything.
DD has been the using sippy cups for 8 months now, so we don't have to worry about getting her off the bottle because has already done that, thank you god!

We switched from bottle to cup at 10 months with both kids. I thought it was easier to transition to the cup when I wasn't also moving them to cow's milk, so it wasn't too many changes at once.
We intro'd DD to a sippy cup at 7months, at 10 months she was drinking water out of her sippy and we were still using bottles for formula. She just turned 1 last week and she now drinks out of a sippy cup all day and we just do one bottle at night. We will probably keep her before bed bottle for awhile just because it's a soothing routine for her.
DS was about 10-11 months. DD refused the sippy until a year, but a month later she is now 100% on sippy cups. I basically just kept at it, and didn't give in to the bottle. She fussed a little, and it took her forever to drink a cup (lots of snacking), but by the end of the day she was used to it My own personal goal (and advice from the pedi) was to have it gone by 14-15 months (I just thought that sounded like a good age...before she got more attached).
Re: When did you get rid of bottles?
We cut bottles at 12 months for #1, 14 months for #2, and 13 months for #3.

We cut the bottle cold turkey. Ethan had his last bottle the day before his 1st birthday. He had a very easy transition.
