Stay at Home Moms

I still have a few years before this, right?

I've been to the same department store three times in 2 weeks. The first time we went I bought shoes for DD (20 months old), and she found a pair of Skechers that she really wanted to try on. This girl is addicted to shoes, it's not even funny (I was the total opposite as a child, so it surprises me). Well, she tried them on and wouldn't take them off. We went again after a few days and she went directly to put the shoes on. And today too. It's those Twinkle Toes shoes, and I really hate them. Hate them.
She doesn't need more shoes, but DH says that I should buy them because she loves them. MIL has also offered to buy them.
I'm thinking, she still has to wear what I buy, right? She'll eventually get to wear what she wants.

  • I think they're cute and she Hous be able to make choices. It's actually an important milestone and should be encouraged. Sorry it is probably not what you want to hear. I am not saying buy everything she wants but as a first choice. It's a good thing. Lol
No, it's ok. I need to hear it. My baby is growing up! :'(

  • LoL those are cute!  At least I can definitely see why a 20 month old would be obsessed with them!

I don't think you should feel like you have to get them for her by any means, but I also think it's fine if you do. It's your choice. :)

  • The thing with those shoes is that for the same amount of money I can buy excellent and fashionable leather shoes instead of canvas ones like the Skechers. Ok, ok, and I don't like the style either :S

If you really don't like them and she does need shoes, I would get what you think is best.  She'll forget about them. I think it's more important for them to have a say (but not the final say necessarily) in things like that when they're older, like school age.

  • Both my big girls sported twinkle toes last school year, so I am not the one to ask.  They're cute, let her rock 'em!
  • I just bought her 2 pairs of shoes. She doesn't need them, but MIL has offered to buy them, so I don't know if I should say yes...
I'm afraid she'll bump her head all the time looking at the lights

  • My mom bought DD a pair of those last year and she loved them and was always showing them off to other kids.  I think they are cute.  Since them my  mom has bought her a pair of sneakers from stride rite and they are the best by far.  We will probably stick to those from now on.

  • LOL!  My DD has those hideous shoes.  She talked my mom into buying them for her when mom took her shopping.  I have to say that the longer that they have been in our house and seeing how much DD has loved them, they are growing on me slightly.  I don't think they are quite as hideous as the day she brought them home.

  • This is our second year of twinkle toes and they are actually cute at this point lol. my twins each have that exact pair. they don't flash incessantly when they walk if that helps any.

Eh. My kid isn't much older.  He's been picking out his own clothes since he was 18 months. I don't buy him stuff he likes if it's not already something he needs.  But if it's something he needs and he has an opinion, I go with what he likes.
DD has no idea she can choose her clothes, and I intend to keep it that way as long as possible. My mom bought her a Disney princess t-shirt because she grabbed it at the store and wouldn't let it go LOL! We haven't watched any movies or videos with those princesses, but she likes them any way. I guess her choosing will eventually happen, I just don't want it to happen yet  :P

  • IMO, let her rock the shoes if she loves them that much!

One thing I've discovered now that I can't get them in DD's size is that I'm kind of bummed because now that we don't have to deal with specific colors for uniform shoes and she can wear the "fun" shoes, they don't come in her size.  They're only little once, pick your battles...
