C-sections

Interview Post Surgery

Hi everyone!  This is my first time on this board - didn't even know other boards existed other than my birth month so clearly I am a bit behind here!  FTM here who has a scheduled c-section for this Mon., Sept. 16.

I have been invited to an in-person interview for a dream job and I'm trying to figure out when to realistically schedule it post-surgery.  My husband will be able to drive me (about 10 min.) and I can probably find a dress to wear rather than a pant suit.  The big downside is that it may be a series of interviews lasting upwards to 4 hours.

So for moms who have had c-sections, when can I realistically expect to be able to leave the house and sit for the interview?  Obviously healing/recovery is different for everyone but I'm curious what you all might recommend as a possible date to suggest at this point for scheduling an interview.

I apologize if this a stupid question - I just have no idea how to judge and plan for this.  Thank you in advance!

Re: Interview Post Surgery

  • Have you ever had a surgery before? I've noticed that no prior surgeries can make it a lot more difficult since you don't have any idea what to expect.

I would give it a minimum of 2 weeks! Maybe 3 since its likely to be a long process. I'm 15 days post RCS. I've had several surgeries including a csection before, so I knew what I was facing. It will be really sore and tender. Add in taking care of a newborn and its a real pain. And 4 hours is a long time after you've had a major surgery. Good luck and congrats in advance!! You're almost there!!!

  • I agree with pp. 2 to 3 weeks at least. The tough part too is dealing with a newborn and adjusting their sleep! And they eat so frequently at first it's hard to get away, especially if you are nursing. But 3 weeks out, I think I felt pretty good. I wish you luck with your interview and more importantly with your new baby! :)
  • Thank you to you both!  You are exactly right @MommyRutledge... I've never had surgery or even stitches of any kind so I'm completely clueless about recovery.  Thanks again :)
  • I would say 2-3 weeks minimum. However, you will likely still be bleeding then and if you plan on breastfeeding, you will need to pump or bf every 2-3 hours, so a 4 hour interview may be difficult. My boobs would have been leaking all over the place. So leaky boobs, bleeding and add sleep depravation and a 4 hr interview is going to be hard. Would they be able to break it into 2 hours over 2 days?
