Pregnant after 35

39 with bun 2 in the oven

Hello everyone,

My name is Shannon and I am back again with pregnancy number 2.  My son is now 2 years and 9 months and after his premature birth I did not know if I had the strength to do this again.  I had been speaking with my doctor's and considering all risk factors when I realized, I'm pregnant.  It was such a surprise my husband and I were actually arguing with the pregnancy test.  We were like, no you must be a defective stick, why are you taunting us.  Then when I took two more and they were the same result we were just in shock.  It took 8 years to get pregnant the first time, so this happening without a thought is crazy.  I am happy though I am due before I turn 40.  Not sure why this is a relief, but I guess it is just a mile marker for me.

So, my son had brought about many things during my first pregnancy.  I had gestational hypertension and during the second trimester I became so swollen it was ridiculous.  Then at the very end they thought he had inuterine growth restriction.  His femur measured small, but as I later found out the doctor's were wrong.  Needless to say he was induced and delivered at 33 weeks and 2 days.  We had a rough ride the first year and a half but we are over all the hurdles and he is an amazing smart little man.  He is excited to be a big brother.

I am trying not to worry over every little detail, but with all the tests I have to do, sometimes it is difficult not to think about what we went through.  So far, so good with the exception of a lot of exhaustion.  I am very excited to give my ds a little sibling.  And just for fun, my sister is getting married March 1 and I am due March 21.  The dress is an issue but I figure if she is a bridezilla, I can just go into labor on her big day... LOL.

  • Congratulations, what a wonderful gift for you! Don't worry about the dress, just get an empire waist and you'll look beautiful. :)

  • Thank you.  Unfortunately, the dress she picked with the color and fabric there isn't an empire waist option.  My seamstress is going to attempt to work some magic.  LOL

  • Given your situation would she let you wear a different dress in the same color? Then you would go with everyone but have the comfort of working with your body. I know some people get really anal about bridesmaid dresses but honestly when it comes to something like this the people attending the wedding wouldn't give it a second thought, it would simply make sense. You might just ask her if you'd rather have that option.

  • Thank you everyone.  I guess I am just going to deal with the dress option.  My sister seems a little annoyed by the suggestion of another style dress.  Oh well.

@MaiTai Beth, unfortunately my first doctor did not attempt to do anything about my bp with my first pregnancy. I had to take my pressure 2 times per day and report the numbers if they were too high I went to the hospital and they would watch me for 24 hours and I would do a 24 urine test.  I have since found out there are safe meds for people with risk of hypertension during pregnancy.  I would look at ACOG guidelines and recommendations.  My new ob just did an anti phospholipid test and if she doesn't like the results, I will be placed on a bp med at week 16.  I hope you do not get high bp.  It was not fun.  I suggest drink lots of water and if possible exercise, it will keep the blood flow within safe limits.  Right now I run as much as possible and I work out no less than 4 days per week.  My bp has been lower than my regular life 115/75.  My last appointment I was 108/70.  This was totally shocking because I was stressing over blood work and the NT scan, but all was good.
