Stay at Home Moms

I thought I was doing pretty good...

I just ran into a mom from my moms' group walking with her newborn in a wrap. I asked her how old the baby was and she said, "Monday." I was pretty proud of myself for being out on a walk with my 7 week old up until that point.

It was also her third under 4. More power to her I guess!

  • Wow! Yeah, at four days I was just barely "walking", let alone walking out and about.

  • Completely unnecessary.  I only walked as far as I had to for the first week.  Pain, oh how I am not looking forward to the pain.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

    Is she a total sanctimommy?

Idk. We've only met a couple times. I'm not sure where her house is, but its in the neighborhood, so she might not have been walking far. I walked about a block maybe a week postpartum this time to get ice cream and it was rough.

  • It all depends on the delivery.  I walked the dog the day I got home from the hospital with DD.  I had zero pain and was looking forward to being outside in the beautiful weather.  Now DS was a completely different story.

  • I agree it was depends on delivery. I went on a walk wearing DS when I got home from the hospital and I am far from super woman.

I didn't think it was recommended to do activity like that a week post-partum. They told me to avoid all stairs unless i absolutely had to use them. I'd think taking a stroll wouldn't be much better.
  • I didn't have any restrictions, beyond no sex or strenuous exercise, for either child. They told me other than the above, go ahead as long as I felt up to it.

  • I took little man to a fair when he was two weeks old. I had my parents help and I wore him the whole time. I wouldn't let anyone else. When I did get home, I hurt so so bad and had to take a nap

  • For me it was impressive that she was out that early not just physically, but that she had her shit together already. She was bathed and wearing matching clothes, lol! She had 2 other women with her who I imagine were her MIL and SIL (we didn't chat because she was on the phone), so she does have help, which makes a difference. But I had help too at that point, and I looked like hell. However, I am probably at least 70% more slovenly than any of the moms in my neighborhood on the average day, so there's that.

  • I walked a ton in the days after having DS. He spent 5 days in the NICU, and they encouraged me to walk from my room down to see him in a different wing of our massive hospital every time he needed to nurse. I feel like the activity helped me heal so much faster!

This was me this time around. Only I was a bit sore about a week later, I think I may have over done it a bit.
