Wtaf. There's a lot of fucked up shut in this thread. OP I think a lot could have been handled differently. Like the adults acting like adults and not over grown children.

Maybe the whole spanking as discipline should stop? Even as an experiment to see if you can implement different tactics and perhaps get a better result. I am not anti spanking, but I don't use it unless its extreme. (I.e. I tell my dd multiple times to stop pushing the chair to the hot stove and she keeps doing it until she is a second away from burning her body off while I'm trying to tend to her sibling.)

Your mother over stepped. You should most certainly call her out on it.
