DH and I are unexpectedly moving from nc to pa in about a week. I have a 2.5 yr old and 3month old boys. I thought I had daycare figured out....they were both to attend a church daycare. After speaking w the director I feel like I am getting the run ard....when we toured I was under the impression that my baby would be in the infant room w only 2 other babies....the last time I spoke to her she told me they were combining the one yr olds and infants. This is news to me and not what I signed up for which is why I am searching for other options...
Since I am now worried about other issues w this center I am searching for both kids. Another option I have is to put ds2(infant) with a lady that watches 2 other babies at her house and comes highly recommended. She can not take more than 3 at a time. If I did this ds1 would be at another larger home daycare up the road...the environment of this is very unstructured but comes highly recommended by several ppl and she turns a lot of folks down. The advantages of this is they provide all food (including breakfast) so we wouldn't even need to deal w that in the morning...also ds would learn from the older kids there. However I do not believe they are doing a lot of "teaching" like they may be doing at a center.
WWYD? Put each kid at a separate in home (mile from each other) so not inconvenient...or stay put at the church daycare? There aren't a lot of daycare options in the area unfortunately. I am worried about my baby not receiving a lot of attention.
Re: WWYD.....daycare related
GL to you. I hope it all works out.
I wouldn't want my infant with 1 year olds either, at least not in a DC center environment. Their needs are very different, their toys are very different...it might be legal but it wouldn't be my ideal. Maybe if I was in a school for a long time and loved them anyway, but you know, not as I sit here.
I would also either keep looking or go ahead and do the in home for your infant and maybe DC for your older child.
Personally, I didn't want my 1 year old with infants mainly because I was worried about my walking 1 year old running over the infants (which he did attempt to) with a walker or push car. I know the DCP had to keep a very close eye on my little guy and redirect him a lot away from the non-mobile babies. I was so glad when they pushed him up to the pre-toddler's room.
My daycare has the infant/1 yr olds in the same room. They do have a separate area for tummy time for the infants, so that the more mobile kids don't crawl/walk all over them. It actually works out really well and seeing the other babies move around helped mine get going! Regardless of what ages are in the room, they are state mandated to have so many teachers per so many children (in MA it's 1 teacher to 3 infants), so they will still be given the same amount of attention. I would ask the church center about how they handle having the mobile and non-mobile babies in the same room, but other than that I wouldn't worry about it.
