Home made pinata

Hi! I'm thinking of making a piñata for my older sons bday. Has anyone ever done this. All the directions I've seen say to use a balloon then cover it with paper mâché then pop ballon once dry. My question is, is the ballon really going to pop? I would think the paper mâché would stick to the balloon...idk? Any ideas?

It should pop. I made an Easter decoration a few years ago that included covering a balloon in paper mache and popping the balloon once it dried. I used a sharp knife.

I made one that way when I was a kid and it worked!

no need for vaseline or pam.  done it many times.  works like a charm.
