Seaside Boardwalk Fire

We are in the next town over from Seaside Heights---there boardwalk was demolished in Super Storm Sandy. They rebuilt the boardwalk throughout the winter--but many of the places were just reopened mid way through the summer. Some parts haven't reopened at all yet. Anyway, there is a massive fire going on there now--Funtown pier collapses in flames. You can smell the smoke from our house. DH's cousins were working there--they both work on the boardwalk when the fire first started. They are safe thank god, but it is so disheartening--after months and months of work to finally get about 75% up and running--this happens and we have start all over again.

Re: Seaside Boardwalk Fire

  • I heard about in on the news. I am in a suburb of NYC and the Jersey Shore is one of our fav places to vacation. They have been hit so hard, I can't believe now this is happening to them. Thoughts and prayers to everyone involved.

  • From what I gathered from friends of first responders--the part of the boardwalk that it hit (except for a block) wasn't re-built yet from Sandy. They didn't incur that much damage from the storm--except for Funtown pier.
These are the places that have occurred damage. :(

    • Kohr's Frozen Custard (Reese's FAVORITE ice cream place)
    • Park Seafood
    •Three Brother's from Italy Pizza
    •Kupper's French Fries
    •Jack-N-Bills Bar
•The Beach Bar: This business was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy last fall and had not yet reopened.
•The Carousel Arcade: This business had been demolished after Hurricane Sandy hit in October 2012.
•Funtown Pier Amusements: This had been destroyed by Sandy and did not reopen.
    •The Sawmill
    •The Beachcomber
    •Berkley Sweet Shop
