Talk to me about OHSS

Hi. I normally post on 3 TTC, but I wanted to ask this question here since you ladies have seen it all.
I am currently on CD 12 of my 1st IUI cycle. I had my U/S today, my lining looks good and I produced 9 follicles (4 on the R, 5 on the L). This was on 100mg of Clomid. Smallest was close to 14, biggest was 17. Average size was about 15-16. I'm pretty sure my IUI will be cancelled, but what I'm really afraid of is OHSS if by some sort of miracle I get pregnant. What are the chances of getting OHSS?

I had 14 follicles around 16-22 when I did ivf and I didn't get ohss. My RE said ohss usually happens when people produce like 20+ follicles. I think you should be fine but everyone is different.

I actually currently have OHSS and let me tell you it's completely miserable.  However, I didn't get it from IUI meds....I got it after my ER for my current IVF cycle.  My trigger was Lupron and HCG, and I had over 50 follices and 31 eggs.  They expected it with me.  Did you doctor say that you're at high risk of getting it?  My doctor basically told me I was more than likely going to get it, so that's why we froze all of our embryos and will do FET.

I agree with the ladies above, I don't think you have anything to worry about.  I had about 9-10 follicles before my 3rd IUI and no OHSS, but for IVF, I had 37 eggs and got OHSS.  I know everyone is different, but I don't think you should sorry much.  Good luck!

Thank you for all your responses. My RE called me yesterday afternoon to discuss this unexpected scenario and after brainstorming he was able to offer me an option that would suit me and them. We are converting this cycle to a cryoocyte IVF.  Its basically IVF only they will freeze my eggs and them thaw them out. 

Why are they freezing them?, you may ask. Well the label on oocyte cryopreservation as an experimental treatment was just recently removed and in order for my RE office to be able to offer this service they need more experience and well more test subjects. So what they offered me is if I agree to the cryoocyte IVF they will just charge the same as we would have paid on the Clomid IUI cycle. Needless to say we agree as the other option was getting benched. 

Today got my follow up U/S follies looking great and growing! Next step is the ER on Sunday.

I am very excited about everything, it is very unexpected as we were prepping for IUI and ended in IVF, but sometimes things work out for the best.
