But what I am saying hav is to teach them to cook. When you qualify for aid what about adding a free cooking class? A free shopping seminar or something? I agree with you on the disabled aspect. My sister is severely disabled, she functions on a 2 year old level. She cannot shop or cook. The government gives her 1000 a month to live. Luckily she has us and will never have to pay rent etc. her money is hers to blow on crap she buys at Walmart, she has no bills. But she has friends in special Olympic bowling, which I coach. Some of my people have to pay 600 a month to live in a group home, then 75 for a bus pass. Not much left over. We go for wings and such after bowling a lot or a nice dinner after a tournament. I end up paying because they have no money. Nothing for fun money. Some of my guys come visit me at my chocolate store part time job and say things like, I wish I could buy an caramel apple. Imagine not having any chance to work more hours to have those treats, etc. they are stuck. I have 3 guys who didn't come back to bowling this year, they cannot pay the registration fee. It sucks.

What pisses me off is people who can better their circumstance and don't. DH doesn't make much money. He has autism and just having a full time job is an accomplishment. DD has autism and lots of therapies. I went and got a evening job when we were feeling pinched. There are night shifts out there. People just don't want to sacrifice. Pisses me off. My dad went to law school. Had 6 kids, one very sick and special needs, he also had a full time job and a part time job where they paid him half wages to work on Sunday nights. While going to law school. What happened to that mentality. My parents grew their own food. My mom worked ,in a strip bar nights around my dads schedule. They both lived on 3 hours of sleep a night at most. Not ideal but they never complained.

We would eat a black bean salad with red pepper, no dressing, no nothing but salt and did that a few times. I wouldn't have thought oh our 1.25 could buy one cheeseburger at mcdicks. No way. Or a frozen dinner. I get it, I'm weird with food but teaching people to cook and shop is the best thing for the issue.

You can spend $18 at McD's but you can also spend a lot less. I ate fast food a whole freakin lot in high school. My parents don't know anything about nutrition and don't have a lot of money. Their logic: Meat=protein. Protein=a good meal. You can spend $18 on 3 meals or you can get 5cheeseburgers and 5mcchickens and 2 large fries and feed a mom,dad and 4 kids for about $15. Or at least that was what my parents (and a lot of people) do.

I'm not saying people shouldn't be given opportunities to learn but I don't know when a big chunk of those people would learn. After working all day and toting kids to after school activities and doing homework etc.? I definitely think there should be more education but I don't even know how practical that is. 

I think it's really, really easy to look at a situation from the outside and judge without knowing all of the details.
