im a FTM at 32 weeks 4 days and i had an ultrasound earlier today and found out my cervix is half the length it should be. I was told to set up an appointment with a high risk clinic to be evaluated. Just wondering if anyone else has had a shorten cervix and what the results were. They told me they might put me on progesterone injections or have me get a cerclage done which sounds terrifying. My younger sister had the same problems but they just watched her weekly and she delivered at 36 weeks.
Re: cervix shortening
I've never had a cerclage, but aren't you too far along for one?
At 32 weeks, I would think it was too late for a cerclage, but your doctor may have a different approach. You may also ask about a pessary. Progesterone would have a great benefit so that's a good treatment. Even if your cervix is shortening, it still needs to dilate and the the birth canal needs to soften which can take quite a while. You didn't say if you are contracting so you may naturally have a short cervix.
I really think you need to talk to your high risk dr and get everything organized. In the mean time take things easy dont lift anything more then 5lbs and try to stay of your feet as much as possible. If you have any questions please feel free to ask like I said alot of us have first hand experience with short or weak cervix..
Good luck and hope little ones stays cooking a few more weeks
A lot of us have shortening cervix at various stages of pregnancy and I'm sure we'd all be willing to answer questions if we can. I agree with PP, I think it's too late for cerclage. I think at 32 weeks you are ok ( just my opinion). Follow up with dr weekly. See Mfm. And rest as much as possible! Good luck and keep us posted
I'd think that at this point in your pregnancy that you would be too far along for a cerclage. In about 2-3 weeks, most dr's and hospitals wouldn't stop labor anyway. Obviously, you don't want your LO to come that early, but the risks start to outweigh the benefits at that point.
Do you know what your cervical length is?
And, I agree with a PP- talk to your high risk doctor. S/he will probably have a different perspective than your OB does.
Best of luck to you and keep us updated.
