Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Crawling

My little man started attempting to scoot at 5 months and crawled at 6. However, now at 7 months he still has horrible form. One leg is a bear crawl while the other is a traditional crawl. It doesn't slow him down, but I'm wondering if the form makes any difference with development, etc. people laugh at him all the time bc it is pretty silly looking but I guess it works for him...

Re: Crawling

  • I take DS to a baby class and the group leaders are PT/OT in EI.  They said babies can crawl/scoot in whatever form they want, as long as they are getting around and building up their arm strength.
DS has been army-crawling for 3+ months.  Just this week he finally started to crawl the "traditional" way, about 30% of the time...

  • I have no idea why I posted on 9-12 board. Guess I forgot his age oops. Thanks for the advice. Ill ask the Ped. He also seems to fuss more when crawling as of late which made me wonder if he was in pain.
  • DS is barely nine months and doesn't show much sign of crawling in the traditional sense. he gets around by bouncing. a totally ridiculous form of locomotion, but he doesn't seem to mind. he bends his right leg inwards, his left one out and sort of scoots on his butt to wherever he wants to go. not that great on carpets, i have to say. lately, when on his tummy he's figured out how to get his butt up off the floor, but not up on his arms at the same time. i'm not that worried, as he does get around, just not in a way that's recognizable as crawling.
