I have 3 mercury amalgam fillings. I've heard autism risk goes up with maternal filling #. Just wondering if other mamas have had healthy babies while pregnant with these fillings? Thanks!
I have 2 fillings myself and have a very healthy 5yo son. I have had loss but all three mc within first trimester. I have heard several theories surrounding old fillings but don't think there is much to it. I have thought about it myself a few times.
Luckily, most places no longer do mercury fillings. Although, If you have them, the wrong thing to do would be get them removed while you're pregnant. Just avoid other heavy metals and especially fish containing mercury and fish oil (only use a vegan DHA ssupplement). Heavy metals bio-accumulate in the body so the the saying a little here or there won't hurt you is irrevelant. Just avoid what you can and if you cant avoid certain exposures, then it's outside your control and dont worry yourself too much over it.
First of all, nothing has proven to cause autism, not mercury whether in fillings or immunizations, whatever. Second of all, there is no way that mercury can leak out of your fillings and enter your body. Yes there is mercury in fillings, the very miniscule amount that is in amalgam mostly evaporates out as the amalgam cures and the risk is so little that it doesn't even pose a risk to the doctors and assistants that do them day in and day out. I'm an assistant, there is no restriction on me being around amalgam. The only way for those fillings to leak any more mercury vapors is to heat them to a temperature that would have already killed you and vaporized your skin an bones. So you have ZERO to worry about unless you are the human torch from Fantastic Four.

PS, any amalgam filling has mercury. There aren't mercury free amalgam fillings. There is only one dentist in my city that doesn't do amalgam and does composite only and that's because they don't want to pay to properly dispose of amalgam. And there is a reason to do amalgam over composite, it holds up much, much better. Composite is weaker, it leaks, and it shrinks which leads to more leakage.
So to answer your question: yes pretty much every mother on the planet that has fillings and has had a baby.

As I said in my earlier post if you're worried about mercury it would be worse to get the fillings removed. Removal of fillings causes more exposure. Here are some "facts" for you to read, so you can make a good decision and ease your worries.
I think I'm the oldest mama on this board.... My oldest is soon to be 23. Back while pregnant with my 23,20 and 18 year old they really didn't have anything but the " silver" fillings. All three of those kids were/are perfectly heathy. Babies 4 and 5 that followed were the lucky ones who got a mom who changed out her fillings... Again, they are just fine. Don't worry, your mom probably had them too when she was pregnant with you
