With DD1 we started with a routine sometime around a month.
With DD2 we pretty much started immediately, but mostly because it had to fit in with DD1's routine.
What time depends on sleepy cues. DD1 is old enough now that we can predictably plan on bedtime around 8, but in the first year or two we went off of how she seemed. Bedtime has varied between 6:30 and 8:30 over the years.
Right now we do DD2's routine the same time we do DD1's... but mostly because she's still in the sleepy phase and it really doesn't make much of a difference. When we started a routine with DD1 we started it when we were ready for bed, for the same reasons.
We started immediately with a bath at seven, then a feeding after that. We try for bed by 8, and sometimes even now it doesn't happen that way, but we figure we would have one constant in our days and that is it.
We've done the routine since birth..more for us to get into the habit then her.. Right now starts at 9:30 and she is sleeping between 10:30-11.. She is giving cues that this couldbe moved earlier but I'm waiting for her 2 month check up next week to find out how pedi recommends adjusting feeding to accommodate..
Bedtime is bath time with daddy, dress in pjs , bottle, rock to sleep with white noise
LO is almost 6 weeks and we just started a routine- bath, book, bottle, change, swaddle and then we dim the lights and put on the white noise machine. Essentially the thought is that the change in lighting, the sound of the white noise and the feel of the swaddle with start to prepare LO to recognize the difference between night and day. So far it hasn't done much in terms of him sleeping more during the night, but I think in the long run it will help.
