Hosting Thanksgiving question

I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the 1st time for my side of the family.  We've never spent Thanksgiving day with DH's parents since we always have to leave town.  We see them over that weekend for a meal.  Since I'm hosting and DH's parents are nearby (30 min), should we invited them for my family's get together?  We get along with DH's parents, but honestly, I'd prefer to just have to deal with my family (20-30 people).  Thoughts?

  • I would invite them. I guess when you're talking 20-30 people there really isn't a big difference adding 2 more.

  • We don't but my H is never home on thanksgiving so that's why it's just my family.

  • DH said it never occured to him to invite them.  I know the polite thing to do is invite them.  They always want to discuss some crazy, inappropriate stuff in front of my kids so it makes me nervous to have them over with other people who don't know them very well. I guess I'll be drinking. :)

My MIL is like this from time to time. She's a great lady, but sometimes things come out of her mouth that are not really supposed to be said aloud. I would just prepare a few conversation starters so that way if they get started on something inappropriate, you can say, "Oh, by the way, did you hear ... ?" So it turns the conversation, but does it without the "that was awkward" pause.

I feel like I need to hear more to determine if this will be me in 30 years or what.
Sex, murder, bestiality.  Normal stuff right?!  The bestiality was once, but while at the dinner table with my toddlers at the time.  Stuff like that sticks with you ya know?
