Stay at Home Moms

Introduction and food question

Hello! I have been lurking on this board for a while. I am a stay at home mom to 2 1/2 year old twin boys and a 16 month old son:)

For those food nazis what do your children eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. My boys are very picky (admittedly so am I) and all they will eat is waffles, pasta and yogurt. I am looking for new ideas.

Hopefully I figured out a easy new way to post so I hope to post more regularly:)

Re: Introduction and food question

  • I hope I did not offend anyone.  I saw that terminology used multiple times on the site.  I just wanted moms who do not use processed foods, make their own foods to let me know what is on your menu. I am at a total loss and I apologize if I offended anyone:)

  • Breakfast: cereal (only non sugary cereals), toast/English muffin/bagel (with jam, peanut butter or cream cheese), waffles, pancakes (I usually make a large batch and freeze them so they're quick and easy in the morning, scrambled eggs, omelette. I always serve one of the above and fresh fruit.

Lunch: sandwich (tuna, deli meat, pb&j, grilled cheese), English muffin pizza, leftovers, soup, pasta. Lunch always includes a serving of fresh fruit and veggies as well. Sometimes a yogurt as well. .

Dinner: the kids eat whatever I'm making for dh & I. Whether that's pork chops, chicken, pasta, casserole, salmon, etc, etc. I don't cater to them (except to dial down some spicyness). Dinner always includes fresh veggies.

  • Welcome! I will pass on some of my kids go to meals although a lot look like duplicates to previous posters.

Breakfast: oatmeal, raisin toast, apples and yogurt, eggs and toast

Lunch: leftovers if possible, cheese and bean quesadilla is a favorite, egg salad sandwiches, veggies and yogurt dip or veggies and hummus

Dinner: they eat whatever we eat, if it's spicy I just put theirs on the plate before adding the spices
  • Thank you so much for the tips. Everything sounds great I may eat some of those things myself :)
I guess the biggest thing is I gave up making/offering things because my boys just make a face, spit it out or refuse it all together. You all know it is hard work and then when they don't eat it, it is hard.
I am going to try and make big things, they are always given what we have for dinner and can always have yogurt if they don't eat at all, 99.9% of the time.
  • I serve a lot of what was previously mentioned, but DH and I are admittedly adventurous eaters.  Although we don't do horse meat...
That said, I have never tolerated the whole spit it out, make a face and then you get something else behavior.  Just tonight DD threw her salmon, zucchini and tomatoes on the floor, some of it after chewing it.  I told her no, I took her plate, when she asked for it back I gave it and then she continued with the bad behavior.  I told her she was done and put her down from the table.  She's not going to starve by missing one meal.  I do try to make sure there is at least one thing I know she likes at a meal and not a whole meal of new things.  Everything on her plate tonight was food she loves and has eaten vigorously before.  Who knows what got into her.  I just keep serving things and asking her to try it, then she can have as much pasta and tomatoes as she'd like.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • I guess my early Fffc is that I don't eat breakfast or lunch most days. I know I know I should but I usually graze and eat whatever they don't eat. If I didn't have the boys I probably won't eat until dinner. I should be a role model and sit and eat breakfast and lunch with them. I always sit with them and we talk, sing, do rhymes and games but I usually don't eat.

My mother always says it is karma. I wouldn't eat anything but grilled cheese when I was younger. Lol
