TTC after 35

TTC after miscarriage

I started off on these boards pregnant and miscarried within 6 weeks of posting.  I was having A LOT of "implantation bleeding" - sludgy - that eventually (3 weeks into the bleeding) turned to red blood and a "painless" miscarriage.  This is my second miscarriage in a row, I'm nervous to start again.  My husband and I want to have children again right away and I was curious what you all think is a good time to start TTC again after miscarriage.

Bleeding was minimal, pregnancy test is negative, I had ZERO pain with the miscarriage.  I know it sounds odd.  Due to the symptoms with no pain I was convinced that perhaps I was still pregnant.  But alas, I am not.

What are your thoughts about trying to conceive after miscarriage?

I have an appointment with my OB/GYN in two weeks. Bleeding has stopped.  Miscarriage was a week ago.

I'm 39 years old.  Time to get the show on the road already.

Re: TTC after miscarriage

  • I think it totally depends on you.
Mine said to start when ready.

Your doctor should be the one to tell you when you might be medically ready to TTC again, it varies and is based on patient history and specifics, not really something we can tell you. From what I have seen, though, the time to TTC again is generally recommended to be longer the more miscarriages a woman has had, to try to make sure your uterus/body is truly prepared for another pregnancy and hopefully not set your body up for another loss. I'm sorry for your loss.

  • So sorry for your loss. I know how tuff they are....as, Gscoville suggested, I would follow the guidelines that your OB suggests since, they know your history and such. I can imagine that you are anxious to get started again, but allow your body some time to recoop and get your system back to normal to ensure that you can sustain a pregnancy. The good news is that you are getting pregnant, so that is a great sign and hopefully, the doctor can help figure out the rest. Best of luck and again, so sorry for your loss.....

  • So sorry for your loss.
I also had a pain free miscarriage. I kept thinking everything would be fine because I has no cramping. But unfortunately that wasn't the case.
Please follow your doctors orders. I was given the green light right away but it was only my first loss. And we haven't gotten pregnant again and we've been at it for 6 months.
Please ask your doctor when you can try again because you don't want to do any further damage by starting too soon.
    Good luck

    All welcome

  • I am so sorry for your loss.  I would definitely ask your doctor.  Mine wanted me to wait until I had one normal period after my MC to TTC again.  My cycles were definitely out of whack for a few months after, and it took us about 5 months to get a BFP.

  • Like previous posters said go with what your doctor says.  We were allowed to TTC right away.  But we have to wait 3 cycles until we can do a medicated cycle.  After a loss your cycles can get pretty wonky.  I didn't O until CD20 on my first cycle after.  Charting/temping is the only way I would have known if I ovualted and when to BD.

Also you might ask your OBGYN about repeated loss testing.... some will do it after 2 losses others 3.  It might give you some insight.

  • Sorry for your loss - my doctor as well as the ER doctor both told me that we should just wait a cycle and then try again. So far I have been thru two cycles with no protection......and no results either.
