Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Introducing the potty?

My son is 14 months- We have no intentions of actually potty training him anytime soon. He has so far been uninterested in it minus waning to open and close the lid! :) But, I'm just curious if (and when) any of you started just introducing the concept/exposing them to a little potty/etc. I'd be happy to buy one and just have it around but not sure when is normal to start the introduction? Thanks!

Re: Introducing the potty?

  • C is 15 months and we've introduced it already.  She comes with me when I go and I ask if she'd also like to go in the potty.  She pooped in it once about a month ago, and now she sees it and just shakes her little head.  If I notice she's going poop, I'll also offer the potty.  More head shaking, lol.  No pushing, but definitely reminding her that it's there.

  • We never used the little potty with DS and I am so glad.  Who wants to clean that up?

We just went with the ring on the big toilet at around 2.5.

My DD is 14 months and I'm planning on introducing the potty about 3 months before her second bday. My boss potty trained both her kids at 2 and she gave me some tips. Ill be attempting the same thing.
