Tight Stomach

Hi ladies, Waiting for OB to call back and slightly nervous today. Lots of tightening in stomach. I've drank about 60oz of water and have been laying down. The tightening is not timetable and I'm not experiencing cramps or pressure. Anyone experience this before? Maybe BH? After appointment yesterday I am nervous, but I don't want to run to L&D at every ache and pain. TIA

Re: Tight Stomach

  • I'd say it's BH. I get that a few times a day and my dr said the NST picked up some BH on the monitor yesterday. That's exactly what I feel though, tight stomach no cramps or pain or anything. Just uncomfortable. Hope it turns out to be just BH for you!!!

  • Hi RK! I started tightening at about 16 weeks with that same sort of untimable nonpainful feeling. Never any cramping, never any pain. I also then had some timable contractions with them. They've continued up to this day with no effect on my cervix (currently carrying around 10.5 lbs of babies).

The timing for me seems to be related to growth spurts from the kids... Tightening used to happen every 7-10 days, then I pop, everything calmed down... Rinse, repeat. Now it's pretty much every other day...

It's my normal - I'd stay in close touch with your doc, keep an eye on your cervix (which I know is shortening, so your situation may be different) and that way you'll figure out whether its your normal as well! Take care and don't worry about bugging the docs. That's what they're there for!!!! :)
  • Sounds like BH. Drink water and lay on your left side ... if you experience more than 4 in 1 hour doing this (even if not painful) call your OB. I've had them since 24wks and it can be a sign of PTL, even without cramping and pain. Better safe than sorry.

  • I totally agree with PP.  It may be nothing, but I was told anymore than 4 in an hour, one should come in and been seen.  Best of luck to you and your babes!
  • Sounds like BH.. Braxton Hicks has become my new normal :-/ I get them everyday they don't change my cervix. I am sure your fine :-)
  • Hanging out in l&d. Fun fun.

  • They will probably check your cervix to make sure the contractions or BH aren't impacting your length. Or to make sure you aren't having a lot of them that you can't feel. That's how my hospital bed rest started. Hope you get seen and good news soon!

  • Thanks all! I am home. Still having contractions, but cervix is ok. Ready to go to bed. I appreciate the responses. Have a good night.
