UPDATED Should I wait?

So of you calculate by my O date (August 20) then I'm 5 weeks. I'll be 5 weeks and a few days at my u/s. Should I push it back to next week so there's a greater chance of a heartbeat? WWSAIFD?

UPDATE:  Okay, apparently he still wants to see me Thursday for placement, and for dating.  But they said he will do another u/s for the hb, and will do them every 2 weeks until 10-12 weeks when I will be released to the OB.  Basically, they said I can have as many as I want, but he wants to see me tomorrow either way. 


ETA: Thursday, not tomorrow. Calendars are hard!

I had an u/s at 5 wks 6 days the first pregnancy, and I have to say it wasn't very interesting (other than only seeing one sac since we transferred two!). If you can stand it, I would wait.

Unless your doc is willing to give you ultrasounds throughout first tri, I'd wait. I feel like a heartbeat is what really makes the difference in that first ultrasound.

I would try to wait. With this pg, we saw the heart beat at 6w4d.

My first was at 5w3d and probably pointless. I was lucky to see the HB at 6w3d, but if I had to do it over again, I would probably wait until closer to 7w so there wouldn't be much room for guesswork.

We saw a hb at 6w2d. Maybe try and wait until next week.

As much as it sucks I would wait until at lease six weeks. Seeing the heartbeat is such a huge deal!

That's what I was thinking. I think they are basing it off of my LMP which would make me 7 weeks. But I O'd late, so I think it's too early.

IMO I would wait. Our first u/s was at 8 weeks. I was disappointed that I had to wait so long but there was so much to see once we got a peek! I'd like to wait again for baby #2 whenever that happens!

I would wait until 6 1/2 weeks for sure to see the heartbeat. Unless they will let you go in this week and next week then Id do both.

I would wait until at least 6 weeks...really, I would probably wait until about 6.5 to 7 weeks so to be sure to see the heartbeat.  Because even if you don't see it at 6 weeks, that doesn't mean a whole lot and then you end up stressing yourself out because you didn't see it.

Honestly, since I am not officially under the care of an RE right now and I am pretty much paying cash (my deductible is high and restarts in 3 months so no way I will reach it this calendar year), I will probably wait until about 7 weeks or so to see my OB just because I don't want to have to pay OOP for multiple doctor visits and ultrasounds.

As others said, as hard as it is, I'd wait (probably until 7 wks).  NOthing is worse than going too early and not see much (then you'll be worrying yourself silly).  Hugs!  the waiting game is the worst!

I would wait until 6.5-7w. That way you are sure to have a hb! Also, if you Oed late and they are basing it off your lmp, they could start on the "well, we should see a hb by now..." which could make you more nervous than reassured.

I would wait until late in the 6th week or till week 7 for an ultrasound, so you will be able to see the heartbeat. I think the only good reason for an earlier one would be for a head count or to see if the baby is in the right place. I don't think you have any of those concerns

At least you're getting frequent u/s! I wished I had more early on, lack of symptoms made me go insane.

I actually enjoyed the frequent ultrasounds, even the super early 5 week one. I knew I wouldn't see a heartbeat yet, but it was still reassuring for me to see something! But I know everyone is different I can't wait to hear how it goes on Thursday!
