Preggo vag question #2

More spotting. It all has been bright red blood. I also have very mild stabby pain every now and then. Like, very mild.
After my bit of spotting this morning, nothing else eventful happened.

Obviously OB is closed this late, but I'm not sure it warrants an ER visit.
We do not have any clinics (that stay open this late) or an urgent care facility nearby.

Options are to either wait until morning and call OB first thing, or I can go to the ER like, now.
WWPD?

Does anybody have similar stories? What happened?

Sorry I'm being annoying and talking about my vagina all day.
I'm just having trouble with gauging when I should or should not freak out.

  • ER..... now. The only time I've ever had spotting was all leading up to my MC.

  • Call your OB's answering service. It could be any number of things. You could have an SCH, or your cervix could still be irritated from sex. I had horrible bleeding at 11 weeks with DD2, with no reason ever found. With my miscarriages, it was pretty readily apparent what was happening, once my body started trying to pass things on its own. Sending you good vibes. Keep us posted!

  • I would call labor and delivery and ask a nurse. I hope everything is okay.

OM is wise. Those people are the experts and will be able to give you the best advice. Good luck.

Me personally, I would head to ER and get an ultrasound even if they couldnt do anything.

If I was more rational, I would call my OB's afterhours line and see what he wanted me to do. Im super impatient so I would struggle with waiting.

  • I'd go to the ER.

  • Personally, I would book it to the ER.

  • Are you filling a pad an hour? I think that's when they want to see you in the ER. For now I'd call the after hours line.

  • I would wait. Or I guess I should say I did wait.. Unless you are losing a lot of blood I think it is a lot of expense with nothing they can do.. I would go in first thing in the morning though..

  • On mobile, so I cannot see how far along you are. Anyways, our hospitals here want no one over 12weeks in the ER - L&D takes it from there.

I would go to the hospital. Get checked, even if it is only for piece of mind.

  • Never in a million years should anyone go to straight to the ER for something pregnancy related (unless you are having excessive bleeding or severe pain- then get your ass there now). They will tell you that you have a threatened miscarriage because they are not remotely trained in pregnancy at all.

Call your OB- there should be someone on call. If there is not, you need to start looking for a different OB. In the mean time, call L&D. If they send you to the ER, then so be it. At least they will know that someone is coming in for pregnancy issues and maybe they can send someone down that knows what the hell they are doing (maybe the on call OB for the evening).

I agree with this.  I understand that people want to do SOMETHING and they want an answer but really, the ER isn't going to tell you squat except "You may be miscarrying.  Follow up with your OB tomorrow."  It's what they tell everyone.  OP, I hope this is nothing more than a scare. Fx.

This, except if people call my unit we can't tell them anything except to call their doctor or go to the ER. We don't take patients to our L&D unit til after 20 weeks usually. The ER can't do anything but an ultrasound, but there isn't much else an OB can do either. If you need the piece of mind or bleeding heavily, go to the ER or call your on call doctor, otherwise it should ok to wait and call your doctor tomorrow.

I hope everything is ok. Appendages are crossed for you. Good luck.
  • I'd call and let the on-call OB know but would likely stay home unless they insisted on coming in. I had a few sessions of spotting with both pregnancies and no issues.

I completely agree, but I would pay twice as much for an ER ultrasound than to be sick to my stomach all night not knowing. Any doctor can see if a fetus has a heartbeat, especially at 8wks. That's the the drill at our hospital and I would take it if that was where I was at.

  • @mrebecca - any update? I'm thinking of you. Hope all is well.

Thank you. I had more spotting last night, and it was a little heavier than previous spotting.
I didn't go to the ER, but I do have an appointment tomorrow with my OB.

My sister called me last night and said, "How can you be so calm? It's like you don't even care, and you're not trying to do anything!"

And I WAS calm until she called me and said all that.
I was at peace knowing that I might be miscarrying; and those things do happen sometimes; and death is merely a part of life; and if the worst was happening, it was not something I had done or had not done to cause it.

But then she accused me of not caring, and it's a damn good thing this all happened over the phone or else I'd have punched her in the throat (I'd say vag, but she's pregnant too, sooo...).

Anyway, no more spotting, and no more pain except for normal pregnancy cramping. As far as I know, everything is alright for now; and I'm fine with believing it until I have more reason not to believe it.

  • Wow. I'm sorry your sister was being so bitchy. That's really nasty.

I'm sorry you've been dealing with all of this.

Let us know how your appointment goes tomorrow!

  • Wow she is lucky you can't throat punch through a phone.  I'm so sorry you are going through this.  That kind of crap is the last thing you need.  We all know you want so badly to DO something, but there is really nothing except being calm.  You are doing exactly what you should be doing.  The fact that it slowed/stopped sounds promising.

    Good luck at your apt!
