Questions concerning Naps

Ok, I have two questions:

1. For those of you with cat nappers or non-nappers, how do you get anything done?? I want to work out (maybe 30 day shred), but with K napping usually 45 min, sometimes less, I am scared I would get all hot and sweaty working out and then he would wake up and I would be unable to shower... ugh.

2. For those whose LO's nape once a day, when do you shower?? I shower during K's morning nap (unless I have to get up early for work) and if we cut out that nap in hopes of one long one, then I'll be out a shower! ugh.

Who knew showering could be such a big issue in life?

Re: Questions concerning Naps

  • No answer for number 1. Dagny has become a once per day napper and will usually nap after lunch for 1.5/2 hours. This is when I work out and then shower. So I don't shower until after I work out in the afternoon.

I usually try to get Henry down twice a day (when I am home with him) but it doesn't always happen.  If I know that we are headed out during the day to run errands, go to the park, or anywhere that I will actually see people I just get up earlier to shower before he wakes up.  Then I can pop him in his highchair with his breakfast and roll him to the bathroom while I dry my hair if he wakes up before I am able to finish getting ready.  It sucks having to get up earlier but if I really want to get that shower in that's what I have to do.  If I HAVE to shower and don't get up early enough to do so I put him in his crib with a few toys.  He doesn't always like it but it's not going to kill him to hang out in there for 20 minutes.
I am so jealous you can leave him in his highchair or crib and he will be fine! Maybe I could get away with the highchair if it was a super fast shower and extra delicious breakfast.... but chances are slim. I'll have to try it one of these days. His crib? When pigs can fly is when he will be ok with me putting him in that thing when it is not nap time. Haha. He'd be livid and screaming like a banshee.

  • We are down to 1 nap a day. I exercise then if im doing a video, otherwise i take her with me to the gym at 4 or so. I could shower then but normally i just wait for H to get home or hop in after i put her to bed. Just reg showering I normally do at night. Unless its sat/sun then I lock her in the bathroom with me. She is pretty much my shadow and never leaves my side anyway.

  • Is working out/showering after K's bedtime a possibility?  I'm trying to figure out how to fit in some exercise myself but I am at the office M-Th.   If I work out after LO's bedtime and before dinner I'd be eating too late.  But I don't want to work out with a full stomach either. And I refuse to wake up before 5:30am.  Ugh. I always shower at night though.
  • Y'all are making me feel like my son is a freak of nature or something. I have tried twice to keep him in my bathroom as I shower and he grabbed a toy and started banging it so hard on the glass I thought it would break so I had to open the doors to take it from him and then the screaming commenced for the rest of my shower. And then no way can I actually do my hair and put a little make up on. He is scared of the blow dryer and whines and tries to climb up my legs the entire time I'm doing my make up.

And the second attempt at showering with him in the bathroom resulted in him trying to climb onto the ledge where the glass doors start on the shower, slipping on the water and landing in the splits and screaming bloody murder.

So basically, unsuccessful. I mean, I knew I had an active one but hearing so many of y'all saying your babies will cooperate as you shower is kind of unsettling.... in a weird, jealous, whatswrongwithmykid kind of way.

  • Saturday morning I considered putting Karsyn in the bumbo facing the corner of the shower so that I could take one. But I didn't do it because I was scared that she would remember it and think the shower is a time out place!

I have never attempted to shower while my kid is awake and mobile. Our bathroom isn't baby proofed and even if it was she wouldn't be content out while I was in. So I only shower when she naps. But it doesn't bother me not showering before I go do stuff in the morning before her afternoon nap.

Oliver destroys my bathroom while I shower. I keep some books and a toy in the cabinet and hope for the best. The toothpaste is also a great toy. I usually shower the night before at least a few times a week so the morning shower problem isn't every day.

And I've been doing 30 day shred with Oliver wandering around me. Sometimes he gets whiney and wants up (especially because to him I'm just standing there) so I make that a snack time and he gets crackers or something while I finish.

Oh and he has started averaging a nap from about 11-1 or 2. I LOVE the freedom because until about 2 weeks ago he napped in my arms.

All of this. Sometimes I think we have the same kid.
