slow cookers. Now that I'm home during the day I've been doing more cooking and just ordered one from Amazon. Are they really as easy to use as they sound? What are your favorite recipes? I am kind of a cooking novice so the easier the better.
LOVE my crockpot. Dump stuff in and POOF instant yumminess.
Favorite recipes: 1. Roast, then add carrots and potatoes later on. 2. a whole chicken then serve pieces over rice with a veggie and fruit. 3. taco soup (meat, taco seasoning, stewed tomatoes, corn, black beans, etc etc and cook on low for 8 hours) serve over chips.
I have a 6 qt Rival crockpot, and I like it. I mostly use it for chicken or pork, and I'll usually put some vegetables in there like onions, carrots, and potatoes, and then something like barbecue sauce to cover it. I don't really use a recipe, but if I did, it would be something like this:
Crock pots are pretty easy, but you just have to watch them to make sure they're cooking evenly, and then check the meat at the end with a meat thermometer. I've also used the slow cooker for carnitas, Mexican chicken for tacos (cook with salsa instead of BBQ sauce), chili, beans, etc.
I abesolutely love my crock pot! I love getting home from work, and dinner is ready. On cold days, there is nothing better than coming home to veggie beef stew.
Thanks ladies! I can't wait to try some of these out. I'm sure there will be some trial and error but I'll definitely report back. I love the idea of putting dinner on in the am and then not worrying about it
If you want a smaller portion or recipe calls for shorter cooking time, you can make a sort of Dutch oven in your crockpot.
I put water in crockpot, then a tall casserole dish that fits perfectly in my crockpot. It helps when the recipe calls for too short a cooking time for my schedule. Getting the timing right that way is a little trial and error, but it sometimes buys me a couple hours.
