Pregnant after 35

Looks like a mc, first time at age 37.

At about 6 weeks all my pregnancy symptoms went away, then immediately I started spotting brown.  Ultrasound was done and the measured the sac, and labs were done and they told me that my pregnancy hormone was high, but progesterone low.  I knew I always had low progest and I told them.  I also told them I was O- and probably needed the shot.  They wanted me to go back today for another US and blood work.  Ultrasound showed that the sac only grew maybe 1mm and they advised it's probably a miscarriage.  Tomorrow I will get the results of the blood work to see how the levels moved.  Also, they gave me the Rhophylac shot.  I don't understand why they would give me that shot at this point.  Can anyone who has been in this situation tell me if they have been through this before and did they do a D&C, take meds, or just let nature run its course?  Super sad :(

  • I'm very sorry.  I don't know about the shot, so someone else will have to chime in there. My SIL miscarried twice around the 6 week mark and didn't have to have a D&C.

  • I had 2 miscarriages in the 6-8 week time frame and they went naturally. I had 1 miscarriage where the baby stopped developing at 6 weeks but my body wouldn't cooperate so I had a D&C at 12 weeks.

    How painful was the D&C?
  • I'm very sorry you are going through this. I've had several early losses, two of which I had to have a D&C. There isn't really a way to predict how your body is going to handle it, you may miscarry naturally or your body may not want to let go. I've been in both situations. I was sore after the D&C procedures but it wasn't extremely painful, at least not physically. Emotionally it's hard either way. Be prepared for the likelihood that your cycle could be messed up for awhile afterwards whether you miscarry naturally or have a D&C and if it is make sure you communicate this with your doctor. I hope your situation will resolve quickly. Hugs.

  • Hello. I had a MC (estimated 6 wks however, blighted ovum)  at the start of the year and I chose to take the medication.  I chose that method because I was impatient and wanted to start trying and didn't want to wait for my body to miscarry on it's own, if it would.  Also, I was afraid of a D&C at that time, however, it took my body longer to re-adjust from the medication than it would've taken if I had chosen the D&C.  I am very sorry you are going through this but there is hope!
  • I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I had a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks a few years ago. Since I had already started spotting I let things run their course. It happened within a couple of days of the spotting. I'm rh- too. They give you the shot if there's spotting to prevent the antibodies for future pregnancies.
