Toddlers: 24 Months+

Anyone else's toddler prefer to sleep on their floor instead of their bed?

My son went through a period of about 4 months last year when he was 3 where he refused to sleep in his converted toddler bed.  He prefered the floor.   That was fine with us.

LOL. Now DD (2.5) is following in big brother's footsteps.   She has been sleeping on her floor since March.   We had to get rid of the crib when she started climbing out.   We converted the crib, but she still would climb over the side.   We decided to just put the crib mattress on the floor so she could sleep on that.  Nope she would cuddle up with her pillow and a sleeping bag.   A few times I would put her back on the mattress before I headed to bed.   The next morning I would find her back on the floor.   I pictured her waking up during the night on her mattress and wondering "How the heck did I get here???  I'm going back to the floor."

We finally got her a real bed (twin sized from my Mom's guest room) and set it up yesterday.   She snuggled in with her pillow, her sleeping bag (she loves that thing) and her menagerie of stuffed friends.   Woke up this morning and found her back on the floor sleeping bag and all.    Silly girl.    I'm fine with her sleeping on the floor.  I wonder what the appeal is though.    She asks me to lay with her on the floor some times and it is just not comfortable.

  • IDK. All of mine (eldest is 6) still sleep on the floor at times. I encourage them to go sleep in their beds. Most of the time they will fall asleep there. Sometimes I find them on the floor or all in one bed in the morning.

*shrugs* I don't make a huge deal about it. At least they are sleeping.

  • My daughter went through a phase where she preferred to sleep on the floor. We tried to get her to sleep in bed but she preferred the floor. We ended up placing a folded up quilt on the floor by her bed and that is where she slept for about a year.

  • I wish my daughter would bring a blanket with her when she sleeps on the floor!  She sleeps RIGHT behind the door, every night I have to push her away from the door and hope I don't bruise her face.  I put her in bed and at some point during the night she get's out of bed and sleeps on the floor again. :-S  Oh well

  • This post makes me feel so much better! Hen we converted her crib to a toddler bed in March, she slept in it for about 2 weeks, then slept on the floor. When we moved at the end of May, we bought her a big girl bed. She slept every night in her bed until about 3 weeks ago. She is now refusing the bed again, choosing to sleep on the floor. She takes her pillow and a blanket. I'm of the mindset that at least she's sleeping, but I'm curious as to why she chooses the floor!
