What does your child do or how do they act when they first wake up in the morning?
Olivia is in this lovely phase where she wakes up and immediately starts whining and then screeching. She used to play and babble in her crib but that doesn't happen anymore. Waking up to a whiney baby is driving me up the wall. Giving her a bottle/sippy cup works for approximately 2 minutes and then she's back to screeching. Anyone else in the same boat?

Id say maybe 15% of the time, K is like this. It is usually on the nights where I am pretty positive he didn't get enough sleep. When he wakes up cranky, he also usually wakes up earlier. When he wakes up later, he usually wakes up happy. I leave him in his crib (unless he gets to the "bloody murder" level of crying) and usually within 5-10 minutes he clams down and goes back to either playing, hanging out, or occasionally back to sleep. Other times he continues to wail and If I don't have to work that day, I go get him and rock him in his room. He never goes back to sleep when I rock him, but he chills in my lap and I can rest until a more decent hour.
ETA: I think sometimes he just needs a few minutes to fully wake up, and once he does, he is fine. I have even noticed that if I go get him during one of his fits, nothing makes him happy and I am dealing with a cranky baby most of the morning. If I let him work it out on his own in hi crib and go get him when he's done crying, he is happy! Babies are so weird....
Me too! Waking up to whining really grates at your nerves and no one needs that first thing.

Even a minor event in the life of a child is an event of that child's world and thus a world event.
