BFN.... mixed emotions

DH took me out on a surprise date tonight. We got laughing and joking around about POAS, and I told him I wanted to wait. We are only about 10 DPO, so I said it would be a waste but of course, he challenged me to a rock/paper/scissors match. If he won, I would test today. He lost. But after talking about it I agreed to test anyway and, no surprise, BFN. It was a two-pack so he wants me to test at exactly 14 DPO. I'm undecided as to whether or not I'm actually going to do that or wait for AF. I'm not going to lie, I'm not surprised by this result but I am slightly disappointed. This is our first cycle and its still early but somehow I was looking forward to the happiness that comes with a BFP. I just needed somewhere to blab about this since we aren't telling anyone we are TTC. I also can't help but laugh at him too. He's so excited and admitted he attempted to do some timing investigation for me. He said "well according to the calculator I used, you did O at the time you thought." I wanted to say "how the hell do you know??" Men are silly.

  • It's hard not to be anxious! Why are you guys not telling anyone? I ask because my DH and I aren't quite to the TTC stage yet but have decided to keep it under wraps when we are. I like the idea of us having a secret only the two of us know...just hopefully we won't have to keep it secret for long. Good luck! Fingers crossed for your BFP soon!

  • This is our first cycle, and I have a history of having cycle issues in the first place, so we don't want to say "we are TTC" and then have people ask what the problem is. Also, DHs mother would probably start buying us stuff and flood our apartment with baby clothes. She has no sense of boundaries.
  • Sorry about the bfn. I had the same kind of feelings back in January. I was 3 days late on my "clockwork" schedule and so for 3 days the idea crept in that we might be pregnant even though we weren't ttc. Hubby also couldn't understand why I was disappointed when AF finally came around. Hand in there

  • Pick up some tests at The Dollar store. That way you can test without the huge cost. You can also buy bulk packs online, but that would have cost us more because we get pregnant easily. (Staying that way is another story, sigh.)

  • Also, sorry about the BFN. I could never resist the urge to wait until dpo 14 either, and seeing the negative can really sting even if you are expecting it.

  • Sorry about the BFN, it always sucks when you are trying.  Hopefully you won't have too many, but be prepared because it can take a healthy couple up to a year to conceive.
  • Thanks girls. I feel kinda dumb for being disappointed since it really is so early to test, and its the first cycle, but I guess it's natural. It's nice to have people to commiserate with tough. :)
  • This sounds like my DH and I last night. This is the first cycle we have been actively trying, though we've been haphazardly using (and not using ) condoms for the last two months since I got my IUD out. I knew there was very little chance I was KU, but I felt super weird yesterday (smelling odd things, kind nauseous and for a moment considered I *could* be pregnant even though I am 99% sure I ovulated on Saturday. He made me POAS, and I got way more sad than I expected when it was negative.

I guess it just goes to show that I really DO want another. We were one and done until we had a long talk last month about how I actually wanted another but was just being one and done because I didn't want to "force" him into more children if he only wanted one. And it proves that HE wants more too since he was super excited it might be positive. :)

I would wait for aunt flo to come before testing so you don't have to buy another test. And Iwould consider investing a few bucks in some OPK strips(the Wondfo ones on Amazon come with HPT strips too) so you can get timing down. That is unless you want to just let it happens when it happens. We decided to go that route with my daughter, and we got pregnant the first cycle. ( I am apparently a fertile myrtle, as my mother says...) For us, my daughter is four, so we want to have another ASAP so the age difference isn't too big....
Good luck, and have fun TTC! :)
