Crawling & bed sharing?

Hey Ladies!  I just stumbled across this board a few weeks ago, but I sure wish I'd known about it sooner!  I love all of your valuable insight.  I have a little guy who is 7 months old (born January 24th) and we bed share, nurse on demand and baby wear.  It's pretty much the greatest thing ever.

Quick question- up until recently we have bed shared with great success.  Baby wakes up, stick boob back in mouth and we both go back to sleep.  Awesome.  Fast forward to the last week when he started army crawling.  Now all of a sudden for the first part of the night when he has a brief awakening he's trying to move ALL over the place.  We have bed rails and he sleeps between my husband and me so safety wise he's great.  Just wondering if this will be the new normal?  It's been taking A LOT longer to get him back to sleep.  I keep telling my hubby "it's just a phase" and kinda just want to make sure that it is! :)

Thanks again.  Looking forward to participating more and learning more from you great mommas!

  • DD was born Jan 26 (yay Aquarians :)) and I could have written this post.  We DON'T have bed rails yet and last night I literally caught her mid-air as she flew off the bed trying to reach her Twilight Turtle.  Yikes!  She woke up at 3:30 a.m. wanting to play and crawl, fell asleep around 4:30 a.m., and then was up again at 7:30...again, wanting to play and crawl.  Besides the crawling, I'm pretty sure she's teething.

We will get bed rails, but I'm also going to bring the Pack n Play up into the bedroom to see if she will sleep in in the first few hours of the night so that I can continue my routine of going downstairs to clean up the kitchen and relax before going to bed after I nurse her to sleep.  That way if she wakes up for boob earlier than I'm expecting I know for sure she's safe until I can get to her.  We'll see, in the past she has not been a fan of the PnP.

Good luck - and curious to read what others say they have done!

  • I agree with PP that this is just a phase. DS did it too. In a couple weeks, he should settle down.

Now more than ever, though, it's imperative that he not be left alone while napping/sleeping, if he's in your bed. Make sure you're always nearby to hear the rustles of a stirring baby.
